Whether this should be here or in "Advice" I'm not rightly sure.

Anyhoo, I'm contemplating buying a Luxor 32" LCD TV for my Mother for Christmas. Her existing (old) TV seems to be on the way out and, being 83, she cannot hear it very well.

Neither she nor I are avid TV viewers so "state of the art" isn't really necessary.

As long as there's a good picture and she can hear it reasonably well that should be sufficient.

I did do a bit of research and one customer review (from what would seem to be an elderley lady) described the sound as "crackly". Dunno if this is due to the TV or something else. Other reviews are quite positive.

Technology has raced ahead of me I'm afraid so any advice, in plain English, would be much appreciated.

Thank you.

Just be aware that the sound from all thin flat screen TV's is pretty poor. No space for decent speakers.

dont read too much into reviews. Quite often they will the complete oposite to what you think if you buy the product.

I'm on my second LCD tv and neither have had brilliant sound, although the LG is better than the Samsung.
Tell your mum not to be too proud to use the subtitles: my mum used them all the time.

although LCDs with their little thin speakers cant match the sound from "modern" CRTs with their bigger built in speakers, i would say that for most people the LCD's sound will be fine. If you are unsure, go to a shop and try one out-thats the only real way to find out.
