Sports Commentators (non-football) (Part 2)
Quote:
I've just watched it on ITV Player and it was brilliant and moving television. An excellent documentary. And I came across the entire original ITV programme on YouTube - very interesting to see how Gary Newbon's interview with the victorious Benn developed as the situation in the ring unfolded, including Newbon completely drying as he tried to temper Benn's victory speech.

Welcome to the second part of this thread. Over the last few years this has evolved into the comprehensive thread for discussion of coverage of all sports events other than football and also F1 - both of which are covered in their own threads. We have regular posters who provide details of commentators for a number of sports including cricket, rugby, boxing, darts and cycling but would encourage new posters to record details of those involved in the broadcast of many other sports.

This might get shown on a Question of Sport's 'What happened Next' in a few years time
And that's Martin Haven commentating. You did not get to see the whole run, where the last 2 men to get in only finally got in on corner 2. |

I was wondering who would be doing the second bill, but I never thought of Nick Halling. Has he done much boxing? I've often wondered why Steve Holdsworth has never been given a chance on other stations. |

So no sign of Bill Lawry who unless I missed it has not announced he is retiring.

Explained in one of the sections towards the bottom of this article... looks like he will be back to rave about the MCG on Boxing Day!!! Benaud confuses me as in 2009 it was announced that he would move to a studio role at the end of the season as he stepped his work down. This never seemed to materialise although he does seem to do less stints during a Test match day than the others (usually he does 1 stint a session whilst the others often do 2) |

I've often wondered why Steve Holdsworth has never been given a chance on other stations. There was supposed to be a Klitschko fight on Saturday as well, from Germany, but it was called off late. Don't know who'd have commentated on that one, with Rawling doing the darts. Ian Darke may have been available, or they may have used Ed Robinson who has done a few recorded commentaries. Will be interesting to see if Dave Clark does the boxing or the darts this Saturday night, normally Gary Newbon fills in on the boxing but it might take priority over the darts this weekend. |

Ian Darke is on Sky sports news with Jim Watt. And they said he was a commentator for a fight.
When did Darke rejoin sky sports? |

Was wondering the same thing! Maybe they hired him as he is based in the US or something?
And although he's now working for ESPN US, most of his work is commentating on English football, so he still spends the vast majority of his time in the UK |
