Aussie Open Tennis
British Eurosport and British Eurosport 2, as well as their high-definition equivalents – will screen continuous through-the-night coverage for those first 10 days, offer fans the opportunity to choose which match they want to watch.

so how will they do this?

I'd say that's just a way of saying you'd need to get the Eurosport Player package, to watch 'whichever match' they want. I doubt they'd want to do a 'twitter hashtag' style quick contest for people to suggest which game they'd want to see on the normal Eurosport.

For the US Open last year, the German version of Eurosport and Sky Germany had an extra 9 temporary channels (like the BBC over the 2012 Summer Olympics), but, y'know, there's no chance of that happening all of a sudden.

No. I'd prefer it if the "TV Shop / HD loop" overnights was gotten rid of, so that Eurosport 1 could be a 24hr channel, allowing delayed coverage of programmes it could have shown live to be placed there.

Amlin Cup - Thurs
Newcastle v Brive - Johnny Hammond and Dewi Morris

Couple of today's Heineken Cup games...
Harlequins v Clermont - Miles Harrison and Stuart Barnes
Treviso v Leicester - Simon Ward and Michael Lynagh

Does anyone know (or want to hazard a guess) on how many/if all games the commentary are actually on-site? I'm mostly referring to say red button games done in France/Italy? Watching a bit of Treviso and Leicester at the mo. Not entirely convinced the commentary is on-site.

Without actually knowing, I'd be damn near 100% certain that only for the games shown on the main channels will the commentators be on site.

BBC Athletics - Great Edinburgh Cross Country

Presenter: Jonathan Edwards

Commentators: Andrew Cotter, Brendan Foster and Paula Radcliffe

Foster and Radcliffe acted as pundits for the pre-race coverage; good to see that Andrew Cotter has become such a fixture in the BBC Athletics team, I think he is a fantastic commentator. No Steve Cram, perhaps he is still on holiday.

I really enjoyed watching that final - it was played at a very high standard in such a good spirit.

Rob Walker at the snooker at 1pm and at the darts at 6pm , wonder why he could just not have missed the first day snooker , he is missing the evening session any way

Maybe because the afternoon was televised. The evening session was red button only. I think he did the same last year. Its not that far between the venues

Would I be right in thinking some of the Eurosport commentators are in Melbourne for the Aussie Open and some not ?

I'm sure Simon Reed was commentating on Eurosport 2 HD this morning and he's doing Dancing on Ice on Sundays.

Who has come up with the best anecdote so far, as after seeing a scoreflash come up on screen about James Duckworth, said on his very first trip to Australia his taxi driver from the airport was playing a CD sung by Bill Tarney (aka Jack Duckworth).

I can't say with any certainty if this was the case last year or not, but I'm sure it's been the case in at least a few of the past five years so that Rob Walker has been the BBC's post-match interviewer and late night highlights presenter for the first eight days of the BDO World Darts Championship only to miss the Sunday of the men's final in order to do MCing duty at the first day of The Masters snooker.

It's good that he's combining the two now, it did seem to be a shame for him to miss the final of the darts in previous years after working on every other day of the tournament.

Just listening to TMS on 5 Live Sports Extra and Charles Dagnall is currently commentating, and I can't help thinking how similar his voice sounds to Jimmy Savile!

He's the longest serving TV cricket commentator in NZ, in fact, having been commentating on cricket on TV since the early 80s. However, he is not a regular member of the team as he is NZ's No 1 rugby commentator. He's done more cricket this season than for a few years, possibly because Sky NZ lost the services of Chris Cairns after the recent match-fixing allegations against him. Nisbett is a very good cricket commentator and shows the value of having a skilled broadcaster among the ex-players.
