ITV Covering the UK Open Darts from next week
Matt Smith hosting as usual but a change in commentary. John Rawling is away at the Winter Paralympics so Jim Proudfoot is joining Stuart Pyke, Alan Warriner-Little and Chris Mason. With Absolute's live commentary game being Crystal Palace v Southampton this Saturday, it wouldn't be conducive for Jim to get from the football to the evening session of the darts in Bolton either. So ITV4 should need a back-up commentator on the Saturday. Or might Chris Mason and Alan Warriner-Little lead a few of the commentaries themselves? |

John Gwynne also regularly prioritising their Saturday afternoon football reporting work for Sky Sports and talkSPORT respectively over darts commentary work as well.

Again another sport and tournament which ITV have lowered the standard of coverage of. Sky Sports' coverage of this tournament in recent years was a lot better than the coverage that ITV have mustered up so far. the change of venue is not helping matters either.
the change of venue is great, its only little crowd so far, as they cant all check in at once, as their, there all weekend, come tonight it will be packed!! 5,000 people |

Hang on, Sky Sports DROPPED the coverage of this so how can ITV have lowered the standard of it ? You can't get any lower than not showing it.

I was simply comparing the coverage of this year's tournament on ITV to that in recent years on Sky. That is like saying you can't compare BBC's coverage of FA Cup football in the past to that of ITV's present coverage of the same tournament. There are comparisons to be made between the 2 as it's the same tournament but a different year and ultimately different broadcasters. I just felt that Sky's coverage was a lot better as although they concentrated on the main board they also had secondary cameras on the other boards and went to them in play and also had split-screens with up-to-date scores etc. my criticism of the venue was that only the main board is within the main arena, and from having attended the even at the Reebok Stadium in the past it was enjoyable to roam from board to board with ease.
I like ITV4 coverage as they treat all players the same. It isn't just about 2 men. |

I was going to say the UK Open Darts was the 'FA Cup' one wasn't it? To me it was iconic tournament for the summer, doesn't seem right having it in March.
I also thought this tournament was one Sky wanted to keep. If not, I thought the Hearn told Sky to effectively shut up and show it or he'd move the biggie events away from Sky altogether. |

2014 Six Nations - Round 5 (BBC One)
Italy v England (Sat 15 Mar) Presenter: Jason Mohammad Pundits: Lewis Moody, Carlo del Fava & Sir Clive Woodward Commentary: Alistair Bruce-Ball & Andy Robinson Wales v Scotland (Sat 15 Mar) Presenter: Gabby Logan Pundits: Andy Nicol, Shane Williams & Martyn Williams Commentary: Andrew Cotter, Chris Paterson & Jonathan Davies France v Ireland (Sat 15 Mar) Presenter: John Inverdale Pundits: Jeremy Guscott, Keith Wood & Thomas Castaignède Commentary: Eddie Butler, Brian Moore & Phillip Matthews So it is Alistair Bruce-Ball that gets the third game, not McNamara or Eykyn. Slightly surprised at the use of Robinson as co-comm rather than having Moore do that game. |

Robinson is a good listen so a good appointment. Not heard much of Alistair Bruce-Ball so will be interesting. Eykyn for me was good/should of been #3. McNamara is awful on rugby (on tv anyway).

It will be interesting to see how ITV4 handle things on Saturday, as presumably Jim Proudfoot won't be available on that day as he will be commentating on Premier League football for Absolute Radio.
Dawson has been providing syndicated updates on the PDC World Championship and other PDC Majors on behalf of the DLI Radio Sport agency for numerous commercial and BBC Local Radio stations for more than five years now and recently he began commentating on PDC European Tour events for the OfficialPDC YouTube channel, so he knows his darts and is a well qualified voice to cover for Jim. |

From the Football Commentators thread on Wednesday: Quote:
Not watching the game as i refuse to watch ITV, but i was wandering on who would be there now since that Roy Keane has become assistant manager of Republic of Ireland and that they are playing. Other than that i take it we have Chiles, Dixon, Tyldesley, Townsend and Clarke.
Edit, just seen The Difference's post directly above and that Ian Wright is there as well, but imo he isn't very good either. |

Dan Dawson has tweeted to say that he'll be covering for Jim Proudfoot in the commentary box on both of today's sessions at the UK Open in Minehead (thanks for the correction on the venue Coventrywoo).

Remember, folks, Gazza1982 doesn't watch ITV.
From the Football Commentators thread on Wednesday: My comments made yesterday about the darts coverage were maybe a little premature as having sat down and watched it, the coverage has actually grown on me. However I still feel it still falls short of Sky's coverage of this tournament in the past. It's not just this tournament either as i remember this board criticising ITV's coverage of The Player's Tournament before christmas. |

Not sure of the point in having David Livingston with Butch Harman on sight at the WGC. Couple of little segments and thats its. I am guessing the comms are off tube in a studio in London somewhere

Well Sky have committed to much more on site presentation for the PGA Tour Golf as part of their new deal - guess they wanted to show a commitment to the sport and not that they're just using it to fill hours.
Is US TV showing the Puerto Rico PGA Tour event this weekend, if it was then Sky aren't doing the commitment thing any good, as it had a fairly strong card. |
