Not quite sure if this is the right thread for this, but legendary BBC snooker commentator Clive Everton has lent his voice to a snooker-themed radio commercial for a well-known fast food chain (the one with the golden arches).

Odd end to the Ride London event this afternoon, with 1.6km to go the BBC feed with Simon Brotherton and Brian Smith dropped out and was quickly replaced with what I presume was the world feed with commentary from Hugh Porter and I think Dan Lloyd

With the world feed available, maybe the BBC could have used this thoughout the race. They did so on their live coverage of the Giro earlier this year, they just faded it out when they wanted to insert their own interviews and features before returning to the commentary.

1st Semi-Final - Leeds Rhinos v Warrington Wolves

Presenter: Tanya Arnold
Studio Guests: Denis Betts and Eorl Crabtree
Commentators: Dave Woods, Jonathan Davies and Brian Noble (the latter was with the above at the start of the programme)
Reporters: George Riley and Robbie Hunter-Paul
For the second semi-final between Castleford Tigers and Widnes Vikings on Sunday, from what I gathered, the same line-up as per the first semi-final, but swap Denis Betts for Jamie Peacock.

European Athletics Championships

Hosted by Jonathan Edwards ( morning till lunch ) and Gabby Logan ( teatime till evening )
Pundits - Paula Radcliffe, Colin Jackson and Denise Lewis
Commentators - Steve Cram, Andrew Cotter, Brendan Foster and Steve Backley
Reporter/Interviewer - the excellent Phil Jones

Can I ask a question for you guys. Back in the 80s, BBC showed a lot of athletics of an evening - Bisslet Games, Weltklasse and so on. But who hosted it ? Was it just David Coleman from the commentary position ?

The Weltklasse was on ITV during the 1980s (except 1985, when I think it was affected by strike action at Thames).

The Bislett games was also on ITV throughout the 1980s.

So that would have been Jim Rosenthal hosting and commentary from Adrian Moorcroft and Peter Matthews and then Alan Parry with Matthews and Steve Ovett ?

I do recall the BBC showing a lot, maybe not the two biggies then.

Bayonne v Toulon

Alex Payne presenting alongside Byron Kelleher and Nick Kennedy.

Commentators: Miles Harrison & Stuart Barnes

Absolutely putting BT to shame so far. Studio presentation and commentary on site! (Although we'll see if this lasts when it's not the first game of the season and the Pro 12 is underway.)

I would imagine this would not be the case had Sky had the Aviva rights. But good to see anyway.

LEN European Swimming Championships (Berlin)

Eurosport - Karri Anne Saude and Peter van dan Hoogenband present the evening events, with commentary from James Parrack and Drew Gordon.

Like James, I'm also not fond of the veledrome (yep, the swimming takes place there) PA playing music during the morning heats. I did like how he called Lady Gaga's Paparazzi, "Whatever the hell this is".

Simon Golding and Chris Snode are on the Diving events (as they were for the FINA Diving World Cup in Kazan over the weekend)

I have an old VHS tape somewhere from the mid-1980s that includes a trailer of the BBC's athletics coverage. It had a map of Europe with red dots on it of all the meetings they were planning to cover. Oslo was definitely one and there were a number of others.

I remember the 1990s far better as I was older. I recall ITV would show the 'Golden 4' on Friday nights between 8pm and 9pm before switching to Channel 4 from 9pm to 10pm. Jim Rosenthal would turn his microphone around so the correct channel logo was showing on screen. They also showed British domestic athletics, having had the rights since the mid-late 80s, and maybe others from across Europe.

By this stage, BBC Two would still show other non-Golden 4 meetings on other Friday nights, but this was studio-based, presented by Helen Rollason with punditry from Daley Thompson. The BBC also held exclusive rights to the Olympics, World Championships, European Championships and Commonwealth Games by this period, so both channels were probably pretty happy with the access to athletics they had at that time.

Studio presentation, not sure about the commentary as I flipped over briefly (it's Bundesliga for me tonight).
