In terms of the 'home branding,' Sky have maybe missed a trick with not acquring the NRL TV Rights.

Premeir Sports get circa 10k a match, and considering most of them are shown in the morning and half on weekdays, thats pretty good. The rights cost is minimal.

Sky have all domestic rugby league from 2018 (played mainly on Thur/Fri night.) If they had all the NRL games, many could be shared with rugby union on red button, then you could have a Rugby channel quite easily.

I dont envisage Sky adopting a product whereby you can get the golf channel etc separatly, but wouldnt completely rule it out. They could feasibly do channels for rugby (combined), golf, cricket, football, F1. Not sure there is enough for tennis, unless they signed up French/ Australian Opens.

Some positive news to report from the USA and ESPN's coverage of Major League Baseball.

Having announced that he was in remission from mouth cancer last month, Curt Schilling returned to ESPN's MLB coverage this past week. His first appearance back on the channel came on Thursday when he was a panellist on highlights show Baseball Tonight, before he did his first colour commentary stint of the year on Sunday Night Baseball, joining Dan Shulman and John Kruk in the booth at Camden Yards for the New York Yankees @ Baltimore Orioles game. Great to see Curt back covering the sport.

I'm surprised Sky don't show the web.com tour championship. Some reasonably well known PGA Tour names involved.

Good news indeed. He was in the booth last night alongside Shulman and Kruk for ESPN's coverageo of Detroit v Kansas City.

Incidentally, some details of this year's postseason coverage emerged last week (detailed by Awful Announcing here). There are a few changes this season with it being the first year of a new national TV contract.

- ESPN has the National League wildcard game, which Shulman, Kruk and hopefully Schilling will call.

- TBS wil have the American League wildcard game as well as the AL Division and Championship Series. Ernie Johnson, Ron Darling, and Cal Ripken will call the wildcard, one ALDS series and the ALCS, while Brian Anderson, Dennis Eckersley, and Joe Simpson will call the other division series. Previously, TBS covered both NLDS contests too. This reduction in their coverage means there's no place for the likes of Don Orsillo, Dick Stockton and Buck Martinez.

- The National League Division and Championship Series as well as the World Series will air on Fox and Fox Sports 1, apart from two NLDS games that will appear on MLB Network. Fox's main commentary trio of Joe Buck, Tom Verducci, and Harold Reynolds will call one NLDS series, the NLCS and the World Series, with Matt Vasgersian and John Smoltz calling the other NLDS matchup.

- Game one of the NLCS will be on Fox and Fox Sports 1 with the latter channel airing an alternative, stats- and sabermetrics-friendly broadcast featuring Kevin Burkhardt, Rob Neyer, Gabe Kapler, and C.J. Nitkowski. I really hope this feed is available via MLB.TV, but I'm not too hopeful.

- MLB Network's two NLDS games will presumably feature Bob Costas and Jim Kaat on commentary, but I haven't seen that confirmed.

- No word on the international feed where Gary Thorne and Rick Sutcliffe will presumably be reunited. I'd expect them to cover the NLCS as well as the World Series, and this will likely be the feed that BT/ESPN take in the UK.

Thanks for posting those details Li4m. It's good to get confirmation that it'll be Brian Anderson, Dennis Eckersley and Joe Simpson doing TBS' secondary ALDS, it's long been known who their main commentary team for the Playoffs will be as well as both of the Fox crews, but while I'd seen it indicated that Anderson would commentate on their second ALDS, I'd read nothing about their potential colour commentary choices.

Gary Thorne indicated that he and Rick Sutcliffe will be back to commentate on an LCS and the World Series for MLB International during their broadcast of the All-Star Game. In previous years, Bob Costas and Matt Vasgerisan have shared MLB Network Playoff commentary duties with Jim Kaat their colour commentator, so with Vasgerisan working for Fox in the postseason I'd imagine Costas and Kaat will do both games.

As someone who listens to Major League Baseball coverage more than I watch it, I'm interested to hear what ESPN Radio's commentary crews will be for their coverage of every game of the postseason. Dan Shulman should call an LDS, LCS and the World Series, although in post-Jon and Joe years he's always been paired with Orel Hershiser, who left ESPN this year. I'd guess Orel will be replaced by John Kruk, but it'll be interesting to see if Curt Schilling joins them in the booth at some point. Regular season ESPN Radio MLB duo Jon Sciambi and Chris Singleton should be their other LCS team and with the Red Sox not making the Playoffs, I imagine Dave O'Brien will be available to do an LDS with Aaron Boone. It's always interesting to see which other commentator(s) gets to do an LDS for them, we usually hear a regional announcer doing one series with Rick Sutcliffe.

On US coverage Play-by-Play is generally the lead man, the one who is on the 18th with an analyst (ie for CBS Jim Nantz and Nick Faldo)

The Tower commentators are what they call the other callers who are stationed on certain holes, generally the 17th and 16th

Yep, never really understood why there was the difference, don't know if it's just down to something like cost or logistics
