European Rugby Challenge Cup - Thursday 17 October (Sky Sports 1)

Round 1 - Gloucester v Brive

Alex Payne in the studio alongside Stuart Barnes and Phil Vickery.

Commentators: Johnnie Hammond & Dewi Morris

Reporter: Bill Latham???

Tonight there are special EPCR graphics on Sky, that look similar to the Sky graphics but in EPCR colours and fonts. We'll see tomorrow night whether BT do something similar.

Just had a look over, so only baseing on the ingame graphics - but well different to Sky's graphics... Unless Sky are using their own in the studio, and taking a Uefa style feed of graphics during games.

Usually in the Heineken Cup rugby wise each respective channel had the Same European graphics but the were all slightly different in terms of the likes of the French channel's wouldn't animate like the Sky ones did.

They're similar in that the layout (scoreboard aside) is pretty similar to Sky's normal graphics (with things like the Team News flashing across the screen pre-match). They seem to fit the way Sky usually do them rather than BT, so whether that is just EPCR's style or whether we'll see BT do their own take on them we will find out tomorrow.

Didn't think they were that similar to Sky's. They had the bottom bar with the team line ups etc, they have done that for anything that they have used uefa/tournament graphics. The name straps were animated differently and no SFX whooshes etc. Obviously the scorebar was very different. I think it's like the White/Blue heineken cup graphics that lasted up to a couple of years ago - standard across all the channels.

Good point, not sure I've ever watched Champions League on Sky though so I wouldn't know what they use for that.

Craig Doyle presenting live from The Stoop alongside Lawrence Dallaglio, Austin Healey and Brian O'Driscoll.

Most of the graphics it would seem are standard, appearing on BT as well tonight (even the Sky-style Team News ones during the DoR interviews). BT have also applied the EPCR style to their graphics showing upcoming matches.

Kinda hinted that BT with some BBC tie in's that they may use BBC guy's. Cotter and Nicol doesn't overly surprise me. Hollins clearly has been chosen as a stand up presenter for the rugby going by recent weeks.

Sky are mentioning previous year tournaments as the Heineken Cup, where as BT are pathetically using the term in 'previous years of European competiton' and the like.

Unsurprising seeing as the Heineken Cup is associated with Sky.

Kinda but in football the old 'European Cup' is still referenced pre-Champions League. The competition was called the Heineken Cup. Don't skirt around it by calling it 'the previous competition'.

The Champions League is just a rebranding of the European Cup though. This is (at least technically) a whole new competition.

Still. BT are doing a 'SKY' in trying to forget history existed.

I wasn't surprised either, especially when you consider that Cotter even commentated on some European games for Sky. If he was available for Sky then he was always going to be available for BT given the relationship they have on football with Pearce and Brotherton being used frequently.

Did Cotter do some Top 14 games last season for BT?

He did the final for them last year, although Gillingham was their main commentator.

I can put my hands up now about Gillingham not being higher up than Hammond! . Sadly no sign of the former at all this weekend with the less games.

I'll be interested to see how the highlights go this evening, whether BT and Sky Sports will stick to mostly showing highlights from their games with brief clips of the others or whether they might put some commentary on some of the BT games

Sky's 90 minute long programme might drag a bit if they stick just to the 5 games they've shown
