STAR TV (part-owners of ESPN STAR Sports) have outbid Sony to win the rights to Indian international cricket until 2018.

ESS have generally been the best of the Indian broadcasters of late so this is probably a good move.

What does this mean to the uk, will sky have to pay so much money to star to get the Indian tv rights, also since sky is partly owned by murdoch, will sky get the Indian tv rights for cheap, I am assuming that sky need to get a new deal for Indian cricket rights now, wow star played huge amount of money for these rights.

This has not been made clear. I'm sure Sky will show the coverage, but we don't know if the previous deal which has 3 years left is still valid. In any case I'm sure Sky will be delighted to see the back of Nimbus who by all accounts were a very difficult company to work with.

Not really commentary related but probably not worth its own thread and of interest in here - the draw for the 2012 World Snooker Championship will be made on talkSPORT's Hawksbee & Jacobs show two weeks today.

I'm not sure when the last time the draw was broadcast but what with talkSPORT being an official radio partner of the event and due to the nature of H&J's show it is probably quite an appropriate fit and certainly a much better option than not having the draw broadcast at all.

Hearing about this today got me thinking: I seem to remember watching the draws for past World Snooker Championships on BBC Two's Sunday Grandstand back in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Is my memory playing tricks on me or did this happen, and if so when did they stop televising the draw? Probably one for Realwales who has a great knowledge of all things snooker broadcasting.

Hopefully Sky can get some skygo rights sorted for next winter.

I couldn't give you any exact dates, but I definitely remember the draw being broadcast on the BBC a few years back like you mentioned

The commentary panel for the IPL has been announced. As per last year I would expect them to fly in and out as the tournament progresses and so some might not feature until later:

Ravi Shastri, Sunil Gavaskar, Laxman Sivaramakrishnan, Harsha Bhogle, Sanjay Manjrekar, Tom Moody, Robin Jackman, Kepler Wessels, HD Ackerman, Dermot Reeve, Ramiz Raja, Danny Morrison, Simon Doull, Craig McMillan, Pommie Mbangwa, Alastair Campbell

Surprised to see Ramiz feature given that Pakistan players continue not to be involved, but he is a brilliant commentator and it will be great to hear from him. Overall this looks a better group than last year's dismal offering.

Danny Morrison doesn't even get a gig on SkyNZ why does he get continually chosen for these events.

Heard enough of Craig Mcmillan on the NZ-SA series to last me a life time as well.

Urgh. Suppose it's good that Ramiz and Manjrekar are there, but jeez.

I would be surprised how Morrison gets any work, but they absolutely love his 'style' over there. Shastri and gavaskar are BCCI mouthpieces, and Siva, well.

Bhogle is a shadow of his former self for me. I used to rate him as a journalist and commentator but these days he is nothing more than a T20 cheerleader who tries to come up with stupid sayings and metaphors every time somebody hits a 'DLF maximum'.

I suppose most of the rest of them are alrtight. The most interesting part of the IPL is watching Jackers age about 10 years over the space of 6 weeks and wondering when he'll collapse of heat exhaustion.

Thankfully I'm working full time this year so hopefully I won't end up subjecting myself to too much of the tournament like I normally do. That's my annual IPL commentary rant done, at least until I decide to watch any of it.

At least Brad Hogg (he's playing... worth the money to remove him from the comm box) and Michael Kasprowicz aren't there this time. And no Mike Haysman.

Morrison works for Fox Sports and so isn't NZ based but, yes, he can quickly become hugely annoying.

HD Ackerman is a very promising young commentator.

Do Ackerman and Haysman get on? They often seem to be a bit tetchy with each other on air, but I can't work out if they are playing it up a bit.

With Major League Baseball's regular season underway, I thought I'd post a list of the Free Game of the Day matches that have been broadcast to MLB.com users who have a basic, non-subscription account during Spring Training, seeing as Ian said he would be interested in these details and no-one objected.

You might notice that yesterday there happened to be two Free Games of the Day, with both the home and away feeds being available for the Brewers @ D-backs contest. The only time that had happened previously this spring was when the hosts and visitors TV partners were doing a joint broadcast. Tonight's first regular season Free Game is the Toronto Blue Jays @ Cleveland Indians match, however I'm struggling to get that to stream so will post the commentary information from that one along with another crop of Free Games in a week or two.

I'm not sure if this is the best place for this post, as it's not strictly about commentators, but it's not really worthy of a new thread either, so I'm gonna stick it here anyway ...

Sky's highlights of Day 4 of the 2nd Test between Sri Lanka and England today were very strange.

Normally a 2-hour cricket highlights show on Sky consists of 6 parts: 2 parts for 2 of the 3 sessions of play, and 1 slightly longer part for the other session, followed by about 20 minutes of analysis and reaction in The Verdict in the final part of the show. But today we had the morning session in the first part, then 2 parts covering the afternoon session (all okay so far), followed by a pointless studio chat for a minute or two ahead of highlights of the evening session, only to be told the highlights were starting halfway through the session () and even these seemed rushed at times. This then left about 40 minutes for The Verdict split into 2 parts (one to talk about England, and the other to talk about Sri Lanka) - I got bored after the first part when the last ad break came on. I don't mind a bit of punditry and reflection after the action, but this was ridiculous.

At first, I thought maybe they'd lost pictures during the live coverage, for the first hour of the evening session, and were just covering themselves, not wanting to admit that during the highlights. But then during The Verdict, there was a clip of a dropped catch from the "missing" part of the highlights, so that can't have been the case.

So ... what was that all about?!

Cross Keys V Cornish Pirates (British and Irish Cup Semi Final RU)

S4C - Sarra Elgan hosting from Pandy Park, with Dafydd Jones as analyst. Both of them are sat on some temporary construction from behind one of the posts, with quite a crowd nearby. Commentary comes from Lyn Davies and Brynmor Williams, with Rhodri Davies doing the Interviews.

Anyone want a photo of Sarra? If you give me an hour I could get to the ground, as It's just the other side of a nearby mountain
