I would think Bruce-Ball is more likely, McNamara seems to have done quite a few of the Ireland games on radio recently so I would expect him to be at Murrayfield

I'm with you, I was pleasantly surprised by how objective Matthews was in his analysis

They will be joined by soon-to-be retired Leinster flanker Shane Jennings, former Ireland international rugby union player Hugo MacNeill and legendary English World Cup winning flanker Neil Back.

Irish sports commentator Conor McNamara, former Munster academy member Murray Kinsella and rugby analyst Liam Toland join Matt Cooper and TV3’s own Sinead Kissane on the broadcaster’s presentation team.”

Just reading through the last few pages of this thread, must say slightly surprised of McNamara's inclusion in the RTE team does he usually do any sports work for them? I thought he was an exclusive BBC Staff Football/Rugby Commentator but is he freelance/non-exclusive or just on-loan for the tournament? If the former is the case, I'd of made some sort of move if I were ITV, Connor has a very distinctive voice and is in my view one of the best sports commentators on TV and Radio. He'd make an ideal number 1 or 2 commentator on coverage of either outlet for the tournament, not sure who ITV will use but he'd of been a brilliant part of the team. I think I'm right in thinking BBC R5 don't have rights to this tournament so potentially the likes of Alistair Ekyn could be used as well as BT peoples such as Nick Mullins?

Connor McNamara started work as a Tv commentator in Ireland on TV3 and worked on their champions league football. He has covered the rugby world cup for TV3 in the past when he was also on bbc 5 live. But since the last world cup McNamara's has become more high profile on BBC 5 and seems to do a lot of big games for them i think he must be contracted to them. But with bbc budget cuts and new rules there seem to be an increasing amount of BBc staff on other channels and work between bbc and other networks. Look at BT sort with the Fa cup and Mark P working with ITV football. Also RTE’s john Kenney covered the cricket world cup for rte news/radio but also was on bbc sport extra radio.

Also TV3 in Ireland is not RTE and is a rival to RTE just like BBC and ITV.

I've been out all day so I'll have to take your word for that. He's also 'Eddie' in his Observer column.

My understanding was that he's like to be given David Dimbleby's 'important occasions' when he retires (including the Cenotaph, Royal occasions etc). He probably wants to use a more formal name for that.

According to the various reports today, there are only two trophies. One will be at Murrayfield and one at Twickenham.

If Wales win the title it will be presented to them in Cardiff on Sunday/Monday

However, another Welshman is in line for that particular gig...

Who? Huw Edwards? He'll probably (almost certainly) get election nights and has been doing the Festival of Remembrance for some time now, but I think it's likely that Butler will get the Cenotaph, Royal weddings/funerals. He's already done a few formal occasions in recent years.

Thanks for the reply, I wasn't aware of his past work for them,

Sorry re: TV3/RTE, I did know they were completely separate but for some reason called TV3 the wrong name constantly in my post, think I was probably in need of a little like down or something

As much it will be fantastic not to have a Jiffy cheerleading show i'm surprised by that... Maybe with Mohammad, Martyn Williams and probably Ross Harries interviewing in Rome they didn't want to completley turn it into Scrum V on BBC 1.

Of course they might (like what they do some years) do the first game presentation from Murrayfield (hence JD there) with just the commentators and Mohammad there doing the interviews.

That would make sense given the fact that the kick-offs are at 12:30 and 2:30 giving a very short time for handover to another presentation team.

Friday 20th March - BBC Two Wales and BBC Red Button

Scrum V Live: Italy Under-20s v Wales Under-20s

Gareth Lewis presenting from the studio alongside Mark Jones and Kingsley Jones

Commentators: Nick Webb and Dafydd James

Red Button commentators: Gareth Rhys Owen and Steffan Hughes (sylwebaeth yn Gymraeg)

It's always good to see Gareth Lewis back on Scrum V, I'm guessing Ross Harries must already be out in Rome.

Yes, I really enjoyed Alistair Bruce-Ball's commentary earlier. I also thought Carlo Del Fava worked really well as a co-commentator along with the ever-insightful Martyn Williams.

During the Autumn Internationals, I'd posted on here how I didn't think the two analyst commentary set-up tended to work that well, but I have to say I've changed my mind - the BBC have assembled some excellent trios in the commentary box this Six Nations.

S4C had Gareth Roberts hosting with Gareth Edwards and Dafydd Jones. Deiniol Jones was on analysis watch with commentary from Gareth Charles and Dr. Gwyn Jones. Owain Gwynedd was outside interviewing fans (as well as Carlo del Fava and Shane Williams at one point)

One thing I liked was how some welsh fans kept those Try clapper thingies from years back, as they still had Real Radio Wales logos on them!
