Shame if Jim Proudfoot is not going to be on this year he has been a great member of the team in recent years but I'm pleased to see John Rawling involved again.

Noticed there is no Darts Extra shows this year on BBC2.”

i agree about Jim, but John is good with darts,
Ray Stubbs is presenting it for BT

Oh right thanks for that. hadn't spotted that. Means they are later than usual most nights though.

Shame Jim Proudfoot isn't working on the BBC and BT Sport coverage of the BDO World Darts Championship this year, but the second weekend coincides with the FA Cup Third Round and I imagine he'll be doing a number of commentaries for talkSPORT on that, given that they are now his primary employer.

I don't think they've replaced him with anyone - John Rawling worked on their coverage last year, although if I remember rightly he only stepped in when Jim Proudfoot was away covering football and presumably we'll hear a lot more of him this year.

I'm guessing George Riley will be absent during the opening Saturday to host Football League Tonight on Channel 5, although FA Cup Third Round weekend should mean he's available for the second Saturday. With just eight Football League games taking place that Saturday, four each in League One and League Two, I don't imagine Channel 5 will broadcast a show - or if they do, it'll be a scaled back programme with Kelly Cates being the solo host as is the case for their League Cup highlights. So that'll be helpful for the BDO Darts coverage at least.

It is worth noting that this match was also shown on BT Sport Showcase.

It was the first time i had heard Eykyn since his BBC days and i have to say that i found him incredibly dull, it was a fantastic game of rugby and he made it sound like watching paint dry. What he said was ok, not great but it was fine, however it was not conveyed very well at all. Mullins, Cotter, Harrison, Butler and Gillingham are all much stronger commentators than he is.

Eykyn for me is decent enough as a back up/3rd choice. He was a better number 3 on the Beeb than ABB or McNamara have since been heard.

I do like him personally, he's probably not quite as good as Nick Mullins, but I would certainly have him over Eddie Butler.

What I have noticed recently is how Darren Fletcher-esque some of Andrew Cotter's commentary in the "red zone" can be, but yet somehow he can pull it off.

Eykyn has grown on me a lot over the past couple years, but for some reason he did sound very off on that Quins/Gloucs game, not really sure why he was like that, but he was very half hearted.

He was much better and more back to his normal self on Northampton/Exeter yesterday

I've never noticed the programme being fronted just by David Flatman, and not a regular presenter before. Has it happened previously?

I'm a fan of Andrew Cotter whatever sport he does, think he's very good. One of the few mainstream commentators in this country that do multiple sports, a la those in the USA.

No, it was mentioned that Mark Durden-Smith was away elsewhere and Flats was standing in as the main presenter. He did a decent job though, and it means he's done every job bar main commentator in the last few weeks, having been the reporter at Allianz Park today.

The issue with McNamara is that he talks at 200mph and gets over excited over nothing, Bruce Ball tends not to add much and is very much in radio mode whenever he is on TV.

Cotter is a strong commentator, for me he is strongest on Rugby over the other sports he does (Athletics, Tennis, Golf etc). I cant say i have ever found him like Darren Fletcher though, Cotter is the most adaptable commentator that i can think of.

McNamara is indeed like that. He can't keep up with play so then turns to churning out a fact about one player/team for ages then nearly misses a try. Happened too many times. Tell me who is on the ball not some stat in the red zone. ABB I agree with you too.

Cotter is just brilliant for me. Will miss him on golf. Now he's done BT work mind no chance Sky would use him again as a freelancer to do golf sadly.

Strangely i could envisage BT taking some golf, perhaps something like the US PGA Championship. Cotter then would be a likely person to have on board. I wouldnt even rule out Ken Brown either as BT seem like they would also enjoy the Ken on the Course segments. At least we will be able to hear Cotter on the 2 days at the masters this year!

That is the main issue with Murray, no one can warm to him. On Match of the Day 2 that was always a problem with him and once replaced by Mark Chapman the program became much more stable. Personally i just find him irritating but i dont know what other issues people find in him.
Mark.

Not a chance. Sky have waited patiently for years to get all four majors so they're not going to give any of them up without a massive fight.

It could have been said that there was not a chance that BT would ever acquire an Ashes series and they have, albeit the series in Australia but it was not seen by Sky. Therefore it is not completely out of the picture to speculate.
