Only the broadcaster who doesn't show the last game is allowed to have a highlights show. So it's not that ITV didn't want to, but that contractually they couldn't.

However the broadcaster which does have the.last game must reflect on the other games during the coverage of that game, hence why mist of the first 20 minutes of ITV's buildup was talking about France v Italy and Scotland v England.

- BBC Highlights show was excellent.

- Not seen much of ITV coverage today, bits I've watched tonight - FAR too many voices/people. Obviously will split up a bit when they have two games a weekend but still too much. Should add plenty of good stuff on the whole pundits wise.
- ITV coverage seems very England dominated (more than BBC) - a bit like their football coverage - almost trying to be 'home of England' with rights to both.
- ITV titles/feel with the modern/cheesy/funky quite poor, not quite the neck hair raising Hans Zimmer.
- ITV made no attempt to kinda have similar graphics theme to 6N/BBC style. I know the 6N in-game graphics are a 'world feed' but are very much BBC style on most part, maybe that was ITV's thinking to do something different.

I think this highlights business is a bit messy, the BBC have Rugby Special back for 3 weeks (which was excellent exactly what has been needed for years) and then it transfers to ITV. for the last 2 weekends. Looking at next season I think the BBC will have 4 editions of Rugby Special with only one weekend on ITV.

In the build up to ITV's match they showed very brief highlights, I was expecting at least a couple of minutes on each match.

I seem to be in a minority but I think Jeremy Guscott is a great analyst, I think Mike Tindall made an impressive debut and made a good combination with Guscott and Nichol.

The BBC really missed Phillip Matthews on the highlights yesterday, I wish they would get him back!

Shame that Alastair Eykyn didn't feature at all, I wonder if he is only working on Super Saturday on the third match or if he will being 2 or 3, maybe starting with Italy-England this weekend.

Overall I found ITV's studio a bit boring only BOD was of any interest. I think the BBC won the weekend but we will see how ITV do when they have the England matches.

I would expect him to be at Allianz Park for BT Sport next Sunday.

I would be looking more towards Round 3 and 5 for Eykyn......

Not sure he'll be known by many on here, but thought it was worth mentioning that Australian commentary legend Dennis Cometti has announced he is going to retire at the end of this years AFL season

Rounds 3 and 5 would be doable for Eykyn, though the BBC could have Butler doing Wales-France live and then England-Ireland highlights in Round 3 if they preferred. If not then Eykyn at Twickenham perhaps?

So where are the comments regarding the presence of Ms Alphonsi then?

Oh sorry, I forgot it's on ITV, so they're exempt from criticism for having a woman - and a black woman at that - on their coverage of an event. imagine if this was the BBC, all hell would have broken loose (as we witnessed during the week with the new Top Gear presentation line-up).

Yeah, Alphonsi is a decent-enough pundit. She's not the greatest ever, but she didn't seem, from what I saw of the analysis, significantly worse than the other two, certainly not Sir Clive.

Don't see why ITV kept having Ugo Monye come in and do touchline comments during the game though.

First time that i have been able to see the highlights show, couldnt see last weeks. Very surprising that the Match of the Day studio is in use for it, it is not usually used for any other sports other than football.

Victor Matfield was excellent, what he said was concise, intelligent and very articulate. He certainly made himself seem like the elite pundit in the lineup and that is saying something considering Davies should be seen as the elite pundit considering how long he has been working for the BBC. The BBC should look to using him again providing it fits in with Northampton Saints.

ITV obviously felt that each viewer would be sat at home wondering what England Legend Ugo Monye might think of the play!!!

I don't do Twitter - what were they saying? - but I was being sarcastic in the wake of the current diversity (or lack of in some cases) furore. By the way, I like Maggie!

It was split roughly 50:50 between people commending ITV for having a female pundit, and those who wondered why ITV were getting opinions from a woman when they had "two World Cup winners in the studio", obviously too ignorant to know that all three of them are World Cup winners.

Another overboard English fest of 900 voices on ITV for the Eng v Ita game. I'm not a 3 person commentary fan, but at least stick Bortolami in there instead of three English voices. Was truely tokensim it felt. At least on the BBC if it's France or Italy you'll get a representative from that country plus tne home nation pundit and a Neutral pundit (Davies or a Guscott who's side maybe not involved until the following day etc - Like Guscott was on Wal v Sco)

I don't mind it when ones a forward and ones a back, but I'm not sure what ITV are hoping to achieve with Flats and Kay (and I'm a big fan of both). During the Wales Ireland game there was a ridiculous passage of play where there was a series of scrums and neither co-com (both ex backs) wanted to comment as it wasn't their area of expertise - stupid really then there's 3 voices in there. I didn't see the game yesterday but I'm assuming that's why they also threw in Monye's voice? To have a back talking.

Did they have "special comments" from Marco Bortolami during commentary at all? I saw a lot of criticism on twitter for the lack of Italian voice. I assumed there wasn't one at all but that's clearly wasn't the case.

I had presumed Flats would be the main co-comm, with Ben Kay coming in mostly during breaks in play to provide closer analysis (the role that the back usually does on BT and which plays to Kay's strengths). That seemed not to materialise. I presume Austin Healey is too controversial for ITV, but I would have tried to get him to partner either Kay or Flatman in commentary. I noticed how good his analysis is compared to most during the Prem game yesterday.

I don't think Bortolami ever came in with comments. I couldn't hear the TV brilliantly but I don't remember seeing his name come up on the screen.

Worth noting that for the first two rounds the non-live BBC game has been available on iPlayer in full next day (SD only) - so if you are missing your fix of Eddie Butler he's available for the whole game not just highlights. It's the match only - no presentation.

Hard to tell if off tube or not.

Not sure if this will continue into weeks where the split goes against the BBC.
