Will be interesting to see if Dave Clark does the boxing or the darts this Saturday night, normally Gary Newbon fills in on the boxing but it might take priority over the darts this weekend.

On the Darts on the Premier League and I am sure one day at last years World Championship's Andy Goldstein usually fills in.
I listened to a bit of Andy Goldstein's radio show on Thursday while he was talking about the darts, he and co-host Jason Cundy spoke at length about going to the Palace as spectators but Andy didn't mention presenting any of Sky's coverage, so I guess they are not planning to call upon him as a cover host this year. One absentee from the Sky Sports team this weekend is Nigel Pearson - his talkSPORT football commitments are taking priority, as he's reporting on Wolves v Stoke today and commentating on Aston Villa v Liverpool tomorrow for them. |

I didn't catch much of the action yesterday but it must have been a busy day for Stuart Pyke and Rod Studd. With Sid Waddell unwell (although he is scheduled to do a few stints in the commentary box at the Ally Pally later in the tournament), John Gwynne and Nigel Pearson away doing football and Dave Lanning having retired, they'd have been the only main commentators available so will have called (at least) four first round games each. Wayne Mardle, Rod Harrington and Eric Bristow will all have done co-commentaries yesterday. Have they added any former or current players to their team this year? |

Not been any new names for the Sky darts thus far. Although Freddie Flintoff and Stephen Fry both commentated last year, so you never know who might pop up.

One of the real problems is that Wayne Mardle seems to be commentating on almost every bloody match- which is excruciating. |

Wayne Mardle is a sheer joke on the commentary, equivalent of a Dean Windass on Soccer Saturday

That Bangladesh cricket match, in 4:3 on screen bloody hell! Probably worse Sky stretching the picture.

The Picture is in 4:3 Aspect Ratio rather than widescreen 16:9 and should have black bars either side but sky have stretched the picture.
Up until October it was the case that some of Sky's overseas cricket was shown in HD, some in 16:9 but not HD and some in 4:3 due to studio availability. However, since October all of Sky's overseas cricket has been shown in HD other than the Bangladeshi series which is only provided to Sky in 4:3. At times, however, something seems to go wrong on the system and we get a few overs where it tries to show it in 16:9. |

I don't think Sky have stretched it for most of the match. The host broadcaster on Bangladesh cricket still broadcast in 4:3 (the only cricket broadcaster I know of still to do so) and so Sky also broadcast the coverage in 4:3. For those with 16:9 TVs this means you get black bars around the coverage.

Ah, I see. Yeah, they way they stretch 4:3 pictures on Sky Go infuriates me. The BBC do the same on iPlayer. It's maddening.

Yesterday saw the opening day of the NBA season...
Boston @ New York (TNT) Presenter: Ernie Johnson Jr. with Charles Barkley, Kenny Smith and Shaquille O'Neal Commentators: Marv Albert and Steve Kerr Reporter: Craig Sager NBA Christmas Special (ABC and ESPN) Presenter: Michael Wilbon with Jon Barry, Chris Broussard and Earvin 'Magic' Johnson Miami @ Dallas Commentators: Mike Breen and Jeff Van Gundy Reporter: Lisa Salters Chicago @ Los Angeles Lakers Commentators: Mike Tirico and Hubie Brown Reporter: Heather Cox Orlando @ Oklahoma City Commentators: Dave Pasch and Doris Burke Los Angeles Clippers @ Golden State Commentators: Mike Breen, Jeff Van Gundy and Chris Mullin Reporter: Terry Gannon A few changes for the start of the new NBA season. Firstly after his retirement, Shaquille O'Neal has joined the TNT studio panel. Meanwhile ESPN have dropped their main presenter (either Stuart Scott or Hannah Storm) and moved Michael Wilbon to the host role, with Chris Broussard joining as an analyst. It was better, but still nowhere near as good as the TNT coverage though, which for me is probably one of the best two broadcasts of any US sport along with NBC's NFL. |

Scarlets V Ospreys (RaboDirect Pro12 RU)
BBC Two Wales - Ross Harries hosting from Parc y Sgarlets with Scott Gibbs as studio guest. Commentary from Gareth Charles and Jonathan Davies, with Phil Steele and Tom Shankin pitchside reporter(s) and analyst. Red Button streams via Satellite and Cable from Rick O Shea and Dafydd Jones with the Welsh language stream taking commentary of Radio Cymru's Cennydd Davies and Emyr Lewis. There's been way too many fancy slo-motion replays, with the only decent one being done at the start when all the TV reporters/commentator were walking along the touchline, making them look like they were in that scene from the Usual Suspects
