On a side note Mark Nicholas is meant to be an integral part of Channel Nine's Olympic coverage later this year, so it'll be interesting to see whether he still covers the test against vs South Africa which clashes with the games.
Interesting. I guess Simon Hughes could host (he's done it for ITV a few times and on this highlights show it is just topping and tailing really), and they will still have a 4 man team with Vaughan, Boycott and probably Barry Richards.

Or could they try out Michael Vaughan - he presented the links for the Official DVD of the 2011 summer and is reputedly keen to do higher profile television work?

Is 'Cricket Writers On Tv' not returning this summer? Expecting to see it this morning as it normally slots in as soon as the Sunday Supplement finishes for the season.
It's in the EPG for next Sunday morning.
Would have filled a nice gap this morning, but I imagined it wouldn't start until next weekend as neither does Cricket AM

Just in case anyone else didn't notice it Shane Warne mentioned on Twitter yesterday that he'll be working for Sky on the second test at Trent Bridge. Not sure how long he'll be over here for though

Kevin Pieterson's critiicism of Nick Knight is a feather in Knight's cap in my opinion. Pieterson, whilst a tremendous player, is often too selfish in the Test environment, so fair play to Knight for having the balls to call him out.

Generally the coverage from Sky, Five and BBC is excellent but can be a bit too favourable towards England, so it's nice to hear Nick Knight going against the grain (Geoffrey Boycott said exactly the same, but he can get away with it).

What KP said was pretty nasty, particularly as Knight was sure to read or hear about it. But in some senses he had a point. Knight does a good job on county games, but on England duty it is like he over thinks things, and tries to formulate a theory about everything. He was probably quite lucky to get the job in the first place, as he retired just at the point where Sky wanted another pundit. Had they wanted somebody a year or so later they might have beaten TMS to Michael Vaughan or chosen Mark Butcher for a full time role.

I wouldn't mind seeing Knight as the permanent 3rd man.

1. He likes to be analytical so it would suit him.
2. You'd only have to hear him a limited number of times a day.
3. It wouldn't waste the talents of Atherton, Hussain, Holding or Lloyd on a role which only features a few times during a days play.

Seems perfect to me.

What is it what people dont like about Nick Knight, to me i watch most of Sky's Cricket, and i feel he does as gooda job as the rest, he isnt choosy, like some who wont do matches outside of Internationals.

How the hell David Gower, remains as head presenter confuses me, he does nothing for sky except for England Matches.

And relegates Ian Ward, who i think is a good presenter, to like Work Experience guy, who just does little bits. What does ward do during the play, deliver coffees.

I actually think Gower does a very good job - calm, asks the right questions etc. There is a lot of international cricket, so I can understand why they don't all do county cricket for Sky. Ward is also excellent, but will have to wait his turn to host the Test coverage.

Fair enough but somebody like David Lloyd, who is obviously the oldest commentator, doesnt seem to miss many matches at all, except when they are close to a test match or england game.

Makes a difference for Pietersen to be tweeting about something other than the IPL.......

We've discussed the merits of Nick Knight at great length in this thread, I think it's slightly unfair to say he was lucky time wise to get the role though. If Sky Sports had better pundits/candidates for the role become available they would have hired them and pushed Knight down the order, it's nothing they haven't done before.

If anything one thing that makes Nick Knight better suited to the position is that he isn't quite as 'matey' with the current players as the like of Hussain and Vaughan are.

I wonder if he'll stick around for the one-dayers between England and Australia after the West Indies have gone home.

Maybe this is my own bias towards England showing up, but I find Knight is so neutral, he almost seems in favour of England's opposition, rather like Mark Nicholas.

Yeah - they boot him out of the Test match commentary box as soon as someone better comes along. I think they've needed an extra man this series because of Michael Holding being a West Indian. Normally he'd be Sky's "neutral" commentator, with someone else drafted in to represent the opposition, but this time Holding's been the "opposition commentator", leaving a space for Knight to come in while Shane Warne hasn't been around. Once that happens, Knight'll be out, and it looks like that'll be very soon, judging by the tweet you mentioned earlier.

I'd be surprised, because I don't think he's done an England ODI for Sky yet (at least over here). Sky tend to bring Greg Blewett over for them and a stint on county cricket.

Nick Knight, i dont think has ever really rated Pieterson, cause i remember when he was having his down patch, Knight, was always saying, when the commentators, were making a squad for a tour or a test match, he always said i wouldnt pick Kevin myself, he has had to many chances, and that it was time to move on.

Nick Knight, is part of the CB40 coverage from Hove, so chances of him being at the Test Match fairly silm
