It really has set the bar, and it has been interesting to see things introduced or normalised by BT such as 3-man commentary teams and pitchwalks appear more frequently on other broadcasters (though the latter is something I don't especially think adds a lot).
Monye, like Dallaglio, is certainly up to the job (in particular once you get used to his sense of humour, and for some reason he seems to work better in a 2-man team than as a 3rd man), but Kay and Healey (and David Flatman to a certain extent) are a step above. I think it's the accent that makes Austin Healey sound like Michael Owen. Owen's from Chester and I think Healey is from somewhere in Merseyside nearby. I'm not sure the accusations usually levelled at Owen (monotone and uninsightful) can really be levelled at Austin Healey however. I somewhat agree, though I think you either love or hate Nick Mullins as his commentary style and turn of phrase are quite distinctive. Eykyn tends to play it safe a bit more. I don't get to see it often, but it is very good. I think you can get away with that more when broadcasting rugby compared to football. Imagine if BT used their mainstream football presenters and pundits and produced something similar, with some equivalent to the smashometer and whatever else. There would be uproar. I know where you are coming from with regards to Healey's accent, sadly Michael Owen's voice may have made me slightly prejudiced with the accent. Would it be fair to say that Rugby fans are less likely to complain about things such as the smashometer, as there is little competition with regards to a rugby "magazine" programme that football has plenty of. |

ITV in the last couple of weeks have illustrated the difference in formality between rugby and football broadcasting quite nicely. Mark Pougatch and his team, tieless, present the Six Nations, but the ties come straight back on when they are presenting the national football team. |

It is worth adding that the Kempton Park commentary was done by the on site commentator at Kempton but i cant remember his name unfortunately, who was the pundit that joined the studio for the Meydan races?

Thanks Liam, also wasnt there a time when he took over some fights on Sky Sports when Ian Darke left over 6 years ago?
Mind you that was some time ago and things do move on very quickly. Quote:
Ed robinson, who often is a reporter.
I was slightly surprised Adam Smith didnt present. Smith seems to have scaled back his on-screen role at the live fights since taking over as head of boxing at Sky. |

If you mean the third pundit with the regulars in Jim McGrath and Graham Cunningham, I'm pretty sure it was Richard Hoiles - who earlier was commentating on the Haydock Park races.

Thankfully, the horrendous experiment of Nelson presenting seems to have come to an end, as Ed Robinson has presented all of the Fight Nights this year so far. However, the bits I caught of the last PPV they had (Quigg v Frampton), it appeared that Nelson bizarrely presented that. Not sure whether they think he is more appealing to the more casual fans who watch the big PPV fights, but goodness me, he is dreadful at it. Much better in the punditry role.

Usually Rishi Persad is on Golf Interview duties, he hasnt said anything on Twitter about either going to Augusta or not. But i would assume it is him as he has done the interviewing for the last few years. As long as there is no return of Michael Vaughan interviewing the golfers i think we are safe!

Nice bit of role reversal this weekend with Mullins doing all 3 games for the reverse round of fixtures from the round Eykyn did all 3 games in January
Two more rounds of 4 games coming, where they are both likely to do two games each, then the final round where they are each likely to go one of the games they show concurrently. They do have one more regular season game they need to pick though to bring it up to the 66 they have promised, and I'm not sure whether that will be the rearranged Bath-Sale game a week on Wednesday (with Mullins commentating, who has so far done one game fewer than Eykyn) or a third game on a third channel in the last round (with obviously a third commentator needing to be used). |

Unless Eykyn was elsewhere, you do have to wonder if it's contractual that they do equal numbers of games in the regular season.
