Ron McIntosh doing another marathon match. I bet the players see him and think "bloody hell, I wont be home early tonight "

He can say that in his first two years commentating at Wimbledon, he did the longest two matches in its' history!!

Also, great to hear Chris Bradnam getting a Murray match, which always seem to indicate who the BBC rank highly. I always enjoy his commentaries although the patriotism went a bit far tonight. At one boring point in the match, the camera showed a woman knitting in the crowd ( ) and Bradnam thought she was doing it to calm her nerves!!!

Tim Henman is actually quite good when paired with McEnroe and the banter between them makes him not dull ( ). Having said that, when the final comes around and he is paired with Castle and the cringeworthy Boris, the commentary becomes coma-inducingly dull.:sleep:

Sorry to be a pedant but it's first 3 years for Ron not two. Mahut v Isnera marathon was in 2010.

Totally agree with you mate, Bradnam is very good but we didn't get a chance to see what he looked like last night. All 16 last 16 matches played tomorrow so everyone will be working but I'm guessing the Murray matches will be mainly Castle with perhaps one for Petchey too.

In some years before they've rotated the Murray matches and many of the lead commentators get one. Wouldn't be surprised if that's what's happening this year.

How do you know they were offtube, the comms?

Because after the 5000m final Steve Cram was in the studio. Jonathan Edwards commented that "Crammy had popped down from the 3rd floor"

It's a real pet hate when broadcasters do that. Looks so cheap.

Is that the first time Paul Hand has been the lead comm for a match? Quite enjoyed what I heard of it.

As you would expect Davies and McEnroe have been on top form, especially in the first set. McEnroe tried to get Barry to go out and ask Andrew Jarrett about how long the delay would be. Davies responded by saying McEnroe would be the one more likely to get an answer and so Mac said ok and went out and asked him!

Yes, Paul Hand was actually very good as a lead commentator. He was far better than the awful Ron McIntosh, who I had to put up with for the Williams match. Barry Cowan of Sky Sports also has that versatile role of being commentator on some games and co-commentator on other games.

I haven't been watching the Federer match so I haven't heard Davies and McEnroe but they are both a class act who never fail to deliver a great commentary. I have never rated Davies amongst my favourites but he is very good to listen to nonetheless.
I'm watching Sharapova-Lisicki partly because Nick Mullins is commentating. I think he is absolutely fantastic and always makes humorous remarks about different aspects of the match. It is a very interesting match indeed, Sharapova could be on her way out.
I wonder if Mullins could be a dark horse to get a final. He has been getting some big matches and never fails to impress and deliver an excellent commentary. I'm certainly hoping so.......

Alot of those that work on Sky cover games as both lead commentator and analyst. Only really Barry Milns doesn't.

Djokovic v Troicki - Andrew Cotter and Boris Becker
Kirilenko v Peng - Chris Bowers and Doug Adler

Also on Istomin / Youzhny, Sam Smith replaced Mark Cox when he moved to the Tsonga / Fish match.

As for Murray matches - so far we've had Castle, Petchey, Bradnam and Reed as lead comms, with McEnroe (1,2,3), Lloyd (1,4), Henman (2,3) and Cash (4). Assuming he wins, personally I'd like to see Mercer on the QF, but more likely to be Cotter or one of the above. Pretty sure Castle will get the 'main' semi and the men's final (unfortunately).

Also seems Rusedski hasn't commentated Saturday or today - assume his work with the juniors (whose tournament has now begun) is taking over, though I'd much prefer to hear him than Henman.

Neither Castle or Rusedski commentated today but they could have been down to do one of the two matches that didnt start today in the mens last 16. Im guessing they were down to do Ferrer V Del Potro

Really enjoyed them on commentary, they were jesting a lot with each other and seemed to have a good partnership even though they said it was the first time they commentated together. Also liked during the rain breaks they were chatting about football and he said it was 8 years since he did a football commenary and McEnroe was all I loved you on it, McEnroe is brilliant.

I always get the feeling that sports stars respect Barry Davies for his wide knowledge and love of so many events. The man is a legend. True commentary great.

I'd expect that to be Henman with Castle - we'll see tomorrow, I don't think Castle does one of the women's QFs so that shouldn't change it. Also expect two of the lesser names to do the Baker match.

They probably were as Rusedski has just posted on Twitter that they're doing it this afternoon
