Who has said during the half time talk they do that he'll be working for Sky Sports for when they do live Heineken Cup games.

LOSG, I know you're not a fan of the Fanscene/RedZone style of broadcasting, but I think Rick at least deserves a chance to show what he can do when calling a match in (presumably) a "straight" commentary style.

It won't be the first time that Rick has commentated in the normal manner - during the first proper season of the Celtic League in 2002/03, when the then-nine Welsh Premiership clubs were involved before the regions were established and thus more games took place, Rick was one of the highlights commentators on Scrum V; before becoming their "digital correspondent" the following season and starting up Fanscene the next year in 2004/05. Additionally, it says on his website that he's done commentary for the production company Pitch which will presumably of the regular kind. He has also reported on games for Radio Cornwall and Radio Wales.

Good luck to Rick - I've always enjoyed his work on the Red Button and the Scrum V magazine show (going by Friday's half-time trailer, it looks like his features might be returning to the Sunday show) and I hope he makes a good impression on Sky Sports. Incidentally, what is Sky's line-up of Heineken Cup and Amlin Challenge Cup commentators looking like? From memory their regulars last season included Miles Harrison, Johnnie Hammond, Mark Robson, Bob Symonds, Simon Ward, Martin Gillingham, Andrew Cotter and Scott Hastings with Will Chignell having left to take a role with the RFU last summer.

Ospreys V Munster (RaboDirect Pro12 RU)

S4C - Gareth Roberts hosting from the Liberty stadium, with Dafydd Jones and Brynmor Williams as guests for build up, but only Dafydd joined him back at the stadium's studio for half and full time discussion. Commentary from Huw Llewellyn Davies and Dr. Gwyn Jones, with Brynmor Williams being used as the tactician. Dot Davies was pitchside reporter.

Whenever Dot interviews a rugby player, it so difficult to see her, as most of the time you can just see her hand struggling to get near their face, as most of the interviewees tower over her

Outside of the Cardiff Blues he has little to ZERO knowledge of the other teams he "commentates" on. I can only assume (and hope) that he'll be used solely for the Blues' games on the red button.

I don't mind Rick on the redzone. It's just a personal annoyance that the redzone is the only English Language "commentary" available to viewers in England.

It has long been my belief that with their ever decreasing sports portfolio the BBC should make much more of an effort with the rights they do continue to hold, namely the Pro12.
