I See some changes to the Heineken and Amlin challenge cup graphics this season, Sky using their own rugby graphics as they do for Aviva Premiership, and other ERC broadcaster's using the same graphics too for the competition, for tonight's game the French broadcaster's are using Sky's graphic package too.

Strangely, watching the highlights of the Claremont/Scarlets match yesterday the French broadcaster was using the old style scorebar
In a geek post, It's sad to see the old graphics, go really liked them, and although used for 7 or 8 years weren't dated. Also Sad the Sky titles music has changed to something less energetic. the old tune made you pumped up for a big game!

Amlin Cup 11.10.12
Alex Payne presented the Rugby Club Special although I can’t remember who with... Mont de Marsan v Gloucester – Johnnie Hammond and Dean Ryan Heineken Cup 12.10.12 I didn’t catch any of the studio but heard James Gemmell do some links. Ulster v Castres – Mark Robson and Dewi Morris Heineken Cup 13.10.12 Alex Payne presented at the RDS with Paul Wallace and Will Greenwood Leinster v Exeter – Mark Robson and Dewi Morris Harlequins v Biarritz – Miles Harrison and Ieuan Evans (Dean Ryan on the FrontLine) I didn’t see any of Saracens v Edinburgh nor the Amin match in the evening. Heineken Cup 14.10.12 James Gemmell presenting at Stade Ernest-Wallon with Stuart Barnes, Sean Fitzpatrick and Scott Quinnell. Northampton v Glasgow – Johnnie Hammond and Scott Hastings Toulouse v Leicester – Miles Harrison and Stuart Barnes I haven’t got any details for matches behind the Red Button/Sky Sports Xtra as the latter hasn’t been showing games even though they are advertised. Fair enough they showed Currie Cup yesterday instead, but there’s no excuse for the Sale v Cardiff game not being available online today. |

Andrew Cotter also did the Edinburgh v. Saracens match but I'm not sure who the co-comm was. Last edited by rufuseric : 14-10-2012 at 17:28. Reason: Putting teams in bold |

France Televisions (FTA broadcaster) are using the 'old' graphics set, Canal+ are using the new ones. I liked the old ones, although they aren't as good when French TV use them.

MLB International appears to be covering the ALCS instead, unfortunately. I don't know why ESPN America chooses to take this feed at all, although I guess it doesn't really matter when it's replacing Fox coverage. But I quite like the TBS coverage, so I was very disappointed to see that we were stuck with Thorne and the atrocious Sutcliffe last night (ordinarily I'd have switched to MLB.TV, but that wasn't an option yesterday).
I can't speak for you but I don't think being "stuck" with Gary Thorne is a bad thing at all - his voice takes me back to watching World Series games and Stanley Cups on Channel 5 when growing up, as such he's probably my second favourite baseball commentator after the great Jon Miller. I quite like The Red Baron too, I know he's a bit of a marmite figure but I like his upbeat attitude and honesty. Certainly they'd be preferable on the World Series to Buck and McCarver, although if you want an alternative Simon Brotherton and Josh Chetwynd on Radio 5 Live Sports Extra have been very good in previous years. I take it TBS' coverage has been very good? I haven't seen much of it down the years, I tend to listen to coverage on the radio more these days, but everything I've heard about Ernie Johnson Jr is really positive - he seems a universally popular announcement. That said, I know a fair few Yankees fans weren't happy with the choice of Baltimore Orioles legend Cal Ripken Jr, usually a studio pundit, as co-commentator for the Yanks-Os ALDS. |

And you're right about Jon Miller. He's one of the main reasons I often have the radio commentary on when I'm watching a Giants game (although their TV guys are excellent too). A terrific broadcaster. Quote:

As for McCarver, well, everyone knows what he's like. I've got no time for him as a commentator, but he does at least strike me as the type I could sit down with for an afternoon and talk about the past 50 years of the game and not get bored. For the World Series last year I synced up ESPN Radio (annoyingly this wasn't an option on MLB.TV, which only gave us the option of local Rangers and Cardinals coverage) with my TV; commentary was from the ESPN Sunday Night crew of Dan Shulman, Orel Hershiser and Bobby Valentine. I rate the first two pretty highly, Shulman especially, and I know that they'll be doing the World Series again this year. I don't know whether Terry Francona will be joining them (he's been part of the Sunday Night Baseball team this year, but now he's agreed to take over as Indians manager next season he might not be involved), but I hope so. ESPN Radio also have the superb Boog Sciambi, who is doing the NLCS this year I think (Shulman and Hershiser are doing the ALCS). Quote:
