I agree with this, I like Mardle but he should be in the studio as main analyst and not commentator but his balanced views are no suprise as he came through the BDO. I still love the BDO because it was my first Darts tournament I ever watched and the BDO is the grassroots of Darts, perhaps the Lakeside should be called the Amateur World Championships but I equally look forward to both PDC and BDO tournaments and long may they both reign

It isn't amatuer though, few professionals in it. There are a number of PDC players that aren't full time too. If you aren't in the top 30 you need a "proper" job too really.

Going back to Sunday's semi-finals... Quote:
Didn't have time to post the semi-final comms so......
Wade vs. van Gerwen : Stuart Pyke & John Gwynne Taylor vs. van Barneveld : Rod Studd & Wayne Mardle Quote:
Rod Studd also did a bit of Wade and Van Gerwen, Gwynne did a bit of Taylor and Van Barneveld on HD.
Over on Sky 3D, their commentary teams were Rod Studd and Wayne Mardle for Michael van Gerwen v James Wade and John Gwynne and Rod Harrington for Phil Taylor v Raymond van Barneveld. To complete the details for Sky Sports 1/Sky 3D's coverage of tonight's final, Dave Clark conducted the post-match interviews with Phil Taylor and Michael van Gerwen on the stage. I might be in the minority here, but I quite like Rod Studd and Wayne Mardle both individually and as a tandem. I think they have a nice rapport and share a similar sense of humour. That said, I must admit I would have preferred to hear the Sky 3D commentary tonight. While it was good of Sky to invite Dave Lanning back to commentate on the final, it would have been nice if he and John Gwynne had been doing so on the main Sky Sports 1 coverage. Finally I'd like to thank smurfs5 and everyone else who has posted details of the Sky Sports commentary/coverage from the PDC World Championships on here over the past three weeks. I posted a lot of these details on here during previous tournaments but my work schedule meant I didn't get chance to watch very much of the 2013 event until the semi-finals and final, thus the information provided was much appreciated. |

I should of made myself clearer, Bristow and Harrington are 2 of the players who broke away from the BDO in 1992/1993 to form the PDC so they never seem as fair to the BDO as Mardle who only moved over in the early 2000s. For instance Bristow called the Lakeside Mickey Mouse Darts on commentary this year while Mardle is always very fair to the BDO.
Will indeed, I rate Crofty as the best darts commentator alongside Nigel Pearson and I hope Jim Proudfoot is as good as Darts Commentator as he is a football commentator as he was always brilliant on ESPN and Talksport Masters and he was very good |

I guess you meant to type 3D rather than HD Callum, I never heard/seen the ending on 3D but enjoyed the early legs with Pyke and Pearson. For me Pyke, Gwynne and Pearson better 3... I was a bit annoyed at the fact we couldn't of had 10-15 mins at least after the presentation so we could hear Dave Clark and co. Bristow would of been gloating at the 7-4 prediction!

Going back to Sunday's semi-finals...
I guess you meant to type 3D rather than HD Callum, as Sky Sports 1's semi-final commentators were as smurfs5 stated, with both pairings commentating on their matches from start to finish. No problem at all. Thanks for clearing that up. What a fantastic tournament and while the void left by Sid Waddell was very noticable, the memories of him will always live on through the tournament's trophy named after him. He will never be replaced in the commentary box but you could just imagine what he would be behaving like when Winstanley hit his 9-darter and van Gerwen nearly did two 9-darters back-to-back and the van Gerwen-Lewis match as well. |

For me David Croft will be a big miss on the BDO coverage- I think Jim Proudfot will be good but Croft was superb.
With Sky I actually really enjoy Mardle and Studd. Initially I thought Mardle would be awful- but he has quickly become a very good commentator. For me the only commentator I don't really like is Nigel Pearson- shouts a bit too much for my liking. I wish Pyke and Gwynne had done the first 5 sets though, before Studd and Mardle. On a slight tangent- I quickly compared some viewing figures from 2012 to 2010.Although I can't exactly remember- have the BARB stats reduced much in recent years- I thought there was a considerable reduction in viewing figures in 2012 from a quick glance!? |

Yesterday's final got 1.20m programme average (per D.M.N. in Ratings Thread). That is the "overnight" figure - final official will be slightly higher - probably in range 1.25m to 1.30m. (Overnight peak was 1.44m at 10.15pm). So that is a very big rise on last year. We can't really do proper overall analysis of the final week until all official ratings are released. |

New Year's Day - RTL7 (Netherlands)
PDC World Darts Championship Final 2013: Phil Taylor v Michael van Gerwen Marcel Maijer presented alongside Co Stompe and Raymond van Barneveld Commentators: Frank Vischschraper and Jacques Nieuwlaat Reporter: Arjan van der Giessen I'm sure some of the darts fans who post on here will be interested to hear how Dutch television covered the final. Barney was a special studio guest for the final and quite a coup for the channel; it would be interesting to know what he had to say regarding his set-to with Taylor during their coverage last night. For the record, their studio presentation came from the Netherlands but I believe their commentary was done on-site. Earlier in the tournament, RTL7 called upon Koert Westerman (whose day job is to provide comedy voiceovers for the Eredivise Live football channel) as their secondary presenter to Maijer, with Roland Scholten sharing some of the punditry workload with Co before he began his German TV duties after Christmas. RTL7's secondary commentary team was Albert Mantingh and (former Lakeside semi-finalist and ESPN UK pundit) Niels de Ruiter. In Germany, SPORT1's commentary team for the final was Elmar Paulke and Roland Scholten. Not sure if they were on-site or not. |

That interesting that the final got a large audience. Helped by later start, and relative short end.
My quick comparison was: World Grand Prix: w/e 14/10/12- Usual average around 145K World Grand Prix w/e/ 10/10/10- Usual average around 190K World Matchplay w/e/ 29/07/12- Usual around 150K, final 225K World Matchplay w/e/ 25/7/10- Usual around 180K, final 466K Decline of around 20-25%, albeit these are very, very rough statistics. I glanced at a couple of Premier League weeks and saw similar drops- very rough though as I don’t know who played who |

With this in mind the semis on Sunday featuring Taylor v Van Barneveld should also have rated very well. Worth doing a comparison once the official ratings are out. Officials for w/e Sun 30 Dec 2012 should be out next Monday (unless delayed a bit due to holiday backlog). |

Friday 4th January - BBC Two Wales and BBCi
Scrum V Live: Ulster v Scarlets Ross Harries presented alongside Jonathan Davies and Robert Jones Commentators: Gareth Charles and Stuart Davies Red button commentators: Rick O'Shea and Tom Shanklin with the RedZone; Lyn Davies and Rhodri Gomer Davies in Welsh Reporter: Phil Steele I didn't watch tonight as I was at the football, so have pulled this information off Scrum V's Twitter. Apologies if any of it is wrong! I presume the studio presentation and red button commentaries came from the BBC Wales studios in Llandaff rather than from Ravenhill. |
