BBC Two Wales had been hoping the timings of tonight's double header would dovetail nicely, with the Under-20s Six Nations game kicking off at 6pm GMT and their Pro12 match being an 8pm kick-off. However, torrential rain has led to quite frankly awful conditions in Viterbo, meaning the start in the earlier game was held up by 45 minutes. I'm not sure how Scrum V filled a whole hour without any live rugby, but they decided to stick with the Under-20s game until it conclusion - at half-time they were speculating whether the 60 minutes rule could be invoked given the conditions, but it went the distance.
Only the Pro12 game has been scheduled to be on the Red Button tonight, so that is being broadcast on BBCi in full with the main BBC Two Wales coverage joining the Ospreys game about 20 minutes in upon the conclusion in Italy. No RedZone commentary tonight (and obviously no Red Button commentaries on the earlier game owing to it not being on BBCi), just a Welsh language service as an alternative to the main feed.
They managed to butcher both the main webfeed and the Red Button broadcast during the overlap. The Under-20s webfeed cut away to Swansea at 8pm, before going to a technical fault testcard for a few minutes. Upon this being rectified, the Red Button/alternative webfeed for the Ospreys game duly cut to Italy and went into a temporary fault of its own for a few minutes before getting fixed. The Under-20s feed then went down for another few minutes but they eventually sorted them both out. Goodness only knows what happened on BBC Two Wales at this time.
