One thing i've always noticed and wondered, is why Ian Eagle is pronounced IRON Eagle? Presume it must be an American thing, i know the name Ian has Scottish origins and is also popular in Australia but i don't know of too many Americans (occasional baseball players) with that name and i don't know of anyone or anywhere else who pronounces it like that.
Incidentally he does CBS NFL also and is quite highly thought of stateside.

I probably need to get out more.

I agree - I think he is very good indeed and deserves to at least become CBS NFL number 2 post Gumbel pretty soon.

Not sure who was with him.

For the Eastern Conference Finals, Sky took the US (TNT) commentary direct (led by Marv Albert). Not sure why they didn't also take the main US commentary for the NBA Finals - though Ian Eagle is a really excellent commentator so it probably didn't make much difference.”

I think ESPN probably prevented it as their feed was on ESPN UK

Commentators: Mike Breen and Jeff Van Gundy, with Steve Javie providing courtside analysis

Sideline reporter: Doris Burke (who also lead the trophy presentation)

Anyone know who the commentators Sky Sports used on their coverage of the NBA Finals were? Kevin Cadle hosted their studio-based presentation from Isleworth alongside various British basketball analysts, but from what I saw of Games 6 and 7 he didn't namecheck their commentary team, which judging by the graphics was an NBA TV international feed duo.”

Technically Wilbon was not the presenter as ESPN do not define anyone as the presenter of NBA Countdown and at times all 4 guys act like the traditional presenter role.

Wimbledon 2013- Day 1

Commentators

Federer vs. Hanescu : Simon Reed & Tim Henman
Baltacha vs. Pennetta : Nick Mullins & Sam Smith
Puig vs. Errani : Paul Hand & Jo Durie

Also, Martina Navratilova is a great addition to the on-air team. Her and John were excellent earlier. I wonder if she'll be doing commentary as well as studio/punditry work.

Great to have no Castle on the Murray match. He's tolerable sometimes but on the Murray matches, he's insufferable with every comment being made from Murray's perspective and his banal comments and smug tone as well as the fact that he talks just to fill silence even if nothing of note happened in the point.

They usually give some of the other commentators a go on the early Murray matches, fully expecting him to hang around a while, leaving Castle to do the bigger games later in the tournament.

I always thought Castle got Murray in round 1 and then semi final.

Anyway, Castle has been announced as the commentator for mens final. Shame.

Little aside but i just read that Jonathan Overend is covering Wimbledon as 5 Lives Tennis corespondent for final time, do we know why ?
