Sunday 5th January - BBC One
Super Bowl XLVI Live: New England Patriots v New York Giants
Mark Chapman presented from Salford alongside Mike Carlson and Danny Amendola
Commentators: Al Michaels and Cris Collinsworth, with Michele Tafoya at pitchside (as NBC)
Red button commentators: Darren Fletcher, Greg Brady and Rocky Boiman (as BBC Radio 5 Live & 5 Live Sports Extra; only available in the second half on Freeview)
BBC One took the trophy presentation from NBC with Dan Patrick although while they were taking their break upon the final whistle they took what I presume was NFL Network/world feed pictures for a few minutes. During one of the commercial breaks on NBC, we heard some off-air preparation from Al and Cris as the Beeb stuck with live game pictures. They also used video clips from interviews conducted by Radio 5 Live's Darren Fletcher on media day during the breaks in the game.
Hate to be negative but Mark Chapman was a truly dreadful choice of anchorman by the BBC. He seemed to be more interested in what people thought of his jumper, viewer's tweets, other people's Super Bowl parties and the size of the players than he was in the actual game. I didn't realise he was going to be quite as bad as he was: I've not seen/heard much of his work on Final Score or Radio 5 Live's football coverage and this has given me good reason not to change that any time soon.
It made me realise how good Jake Humphrey has been in past years, who while not an expert clearly does his homework and at least makes an effort to sound interested in his pundits. They might not be famous Radio 1 DJs, but BBC TV would have been better served to opt for Matt Roberts (who presented their highlights shows from the first three rounds of the Playoffs) or Nat Coombs (ex-NFL on Five host who now presents 5 Live Sports Extra's coverage) instead of Chapman if Jake wasn't available.

Surprised he didn't get the big game of the night, but perhaps they're just easing him back in slowly.
