You could well be right about Andrew Cotter. I'm guessing its Castle from here on in on Murray matches now. I think Simon Reed will do one. Hope so, big fan

Castle won't do Murray's quarter IMO. If he were to do the rest of the Murray matches, that would mean he could have potentially done 4 Murray matches this tournament which I think is unlikely. I doubt it'll be Reed as he did the last Murray match so I'd say Petchey or Cotter will get it.

The rest of the tournament, I think it'll be:

MENS QFs------ Castle, Petchey, Cotter & Mullins
MENS SFs--------Castle & Petchey
MENS FINAL------Castle ( )

LADIES SFs------- Simon Reed & Chris Bradnam
LADIES FINAL------ Petchey

Who has done Murray so far ?

1st Round - Petchey
2nd Round - Mercer
3rd Round - Castle
4th Round - Reed

is that right ?

I think Mullins will get the other women's semi as Bradnam has already done a lot of high profile matches and Mullins did the semi last year. They tend to let keep their lead/favourite commentators for the final big games to share the high profile matches around. Only my opinion though!

Mute button pressed. Andrew castle commentating on Murray (again) alongside Boris Becker and Tim Henman. When will the BBC learn?

I am sticking with this. Wish I was wrong though. Not a Castle fan at all

No men's quarter-final for Nick Mullins then. A shame, as I rate him as one of the best sports commentators out there, both on rugby union and tennis.

I guess the BBC prefer to have commentators mainly associated with them - Castle and Cotter - over someone like Mullins who was calling the French Open Final on ITV only four weeks ago.

Having said that, it hasn't stopped John Inverdale presenting Today At Wimbledon...

Also surprised to see Simon Reed missing.

It could be that those two are on semi final duty instead. Ladies I mean

I would expect Chris Bradnam (who covers WTA for British Eurosport) to be one of the commentators.

Earlier on this afternoon we got the usual from Andrew Castle:

"Wimbledon is one of four grand slam tournaments over the course of the year...they are the Australian Open, the French Open, Wimbledon and the US Open."

I get so sick of hearing him say this. He does it every time he commentates. We got the message the first time!

Rant over.

This is one of the reasons i have to press the mute button when i hear that he is the commentator. He is constantly repeating the same things, the one you mention above is one of his favourites then we have the rules of a tie break, every time a set goes to one. And ever since the roof has been installed he goes on about how many tonnes it weighs and how long it takes to shut etc. Explaining hawk-eye was another one that he seemed to mention either before every match or every time a player made a challenge.

For anyone of you who are listening to him, can i ask, when the camera pans over 'Henman Hill' does he still try to talk to the crowd as if they can hear him? As this is another thing that has annoyed me in the past.

He's just said it again

Was wrong about Bradnam covering a men's quarter, but would expect it to be Mullins and Reed for the ladies semis. Bradnam has had a men's and a ladies quarter, whereas neither Mullins nor Reed covered a single quarter final match. Either they have both been severely demoted, they covered the ladies' semis last year, or they will cover the semis tomorrow. I hope I'm not wrong as I think they are both excellent and deserve a big game.

Good point, but I don't think they are as prestigious as the networked matches as 3D has a tiny audience. I still think it would be a big demotion for either of Reed or Mullins.

I'm guessing that Davenport, McEnroe, Navratilova et al. will be less prominent over the next few days while they're playing themselves in the invitation matches. Not that there's that many matches left anyway...

Simon Reed also does the world feed highlights, which is one-hour commentary package with one commentator. Every night. That obviously adds to the workload too.

Doesn't McEnroe work for NBC towards the end of the tournament?

NBC's rights have ceased for Wimbledon. ESPN is the only American live broadcaster. John McEnroe seems to cover early matches on BBC and later ones on ESPN.
