This is one of the reasons i have to press the mute button when i hear that he is the commentator. He is constantly repeating the same things, the one you mention above is one of his favourites then we have the rules of a tie break, every time a set goes to one. And ever since the roof has been installed he goes on about how many tonnes it weighs and how long it takes to shut etc. Explaining hawk-eye was another one that he seemed to mention either before every match or every time a player made a challenge.
For anyone of you who are listening to him, can i ask, when the camera pans over 'Henman Hill' does he still try to talk to the crowd as if they can hear him? As this is another thing that has annoyed me in the past. He's such a pain, yet no doubt he'll be heading up the final on Sunday

Semi finals commentators
Bartoli V Flipkens - Nick Mullins, Lindsay Davenport and John McEnroe Lisicki V Radwanska - Simon Reed, Sam Smith and Tracy Austin The two I predicted after the quarter finals. I do expect the final to be Mark Petchey. As for mens semi finals tomorrow - well I will predict Castle and Cotter |

Sounds like Andrew Castle with Rennae Stubbs on the 3D commentary. I wonder if this is being simulcast with either ESPN or/and Channel 7 in Australia.

It's certainly not Barry with Rennae for the second semi.

I have been a fan of Andrew Cotter since his Real Radio Scotland days.

Whether or not he thinks it, he definitely IS a jack of all trades, comfortable commentating on tennis, rugby union and athletics. He's smooth and measured in the commentary box.
i like him on golf too |

I'll echo the sentiments regarding Andrew Cotter. It is quite an art to be able to jump from one sport to another seamlessly like he can. And he's enthusiastic too.
I'd say that golf is his strongest sport but I enjoy listening to him on rugby union and tennis too. I've never heard him on athletics. That must be a rarity? |

He did the Birmingham Grand Prix on Sunday, but yeah, he's certainly not a regular
![]() Intriguing that they'd send one of their tennis comms to an athletics meet in the middle of their primary tennis competition when they've got other (seasoned) comms dedicated to athletics. I guess none of them were available... |

Lots of flux on BBC Athletics lately. Gabby Logan has been brought in as presenter now, replacing the early-season run that Jonathan Edwards had. Cotter's arrival puts a journalist in the commentary box again.
I wonder if this is part of a bigger trend? Colin Murray replaced by a proper fine sports broadcaster in Mark Chapman on MOTD2, Alan Hansen departing in a year's time, Dan Walker's rise... It's possible that the BBC trend of the past 15 years in giving former sportspeople presenting and reporting jobs may be in the throes of being phased out. |

I guess none of them were available... Cotter on every sport he does is brilliant. Unlike Barry Davies, you won't see him on football though! Was told when he started at STV, after a successful interview, his first assignment was to go to Hearts, and he didn't have a big clue about football, which they were gobsmacked about!

Getting back to Wimbledon, I was so pleased my dream commentary team of Mullins, Davenport and McEnroe got an outing on the Semi's today (shame the match was so one sided). Nick Mullins is probably my favourite tennis commentator, although Petchey and Cotter are both very good, BT have picked well for their WTA coverage next year. I hope his new BT deal isn't exclusive so I'll still be able to hear him on the French Open and Wimbledon. |

Andrew Cotter commentated on the UK indoors as well and seems to be a permanent fixture on the athletics team now, he's going to be at the World Athletics Champs for BBC TV.

Thanks pakokelso93 and thelastword.
I'm pleased to hear that Cotter is now a permanent part of the BBC's athletics team. Should be a solid addition. |

Wimbledon 1st en's semi final,
Djokovic v Del Potro - Mark Petchey, Boris Becker and John Lloyd. Unfortunately this seems that Andrew Castle will be doing Murray's semi, probably with Henman and possibly McEnroe. |
