What are people's thoughts on Andrew Strauss in the Sky Comm box ?

Personally I think he is on too much. There seems a lot less Nasser and Michael Atherton and to be honest I would sooner hear from them. Strauss offers insight but he doesn't have the personality to carry off the commentary role. I much prefer Michael Vaughan.

coverage has been good, they are probably using strauss more in the analysis, prefer hussain and Atherton, both these guys loves watching cricket, it shows in their knowledge, you can tell both guys watch cricket matches other than england, since they mention other cricketer, they have seen during the week or recent times.

gladly they haven't used botham in the analysis, especially since he doesn't really know much and he doesn't really give much credit to the opposition.

the great thing is that only Hussain, Strauss, Atherton are using the Sky Ashes Zone, Crap name.

why doesn't sky use Holding more for the analysis, especially for the bowling, he really know what he is talking about, Hussain, Atherton and Strauss don't know much about bowling, the analysis is usually all set about the batting and not bowling.

I think the problem with Botham is, he never does any of the county games, so apart from the england players, his knowledge is small, im surprised, he knew how good Root was, or even knew who Compton was

yep and the fact he doesn't watch cricket anymore, he doesn't even watch any games apart from the england games he his working on, you can tell by his lack of knowledge of other teams, he was awful during the champions trophy, didn't know much about the indian team or Shikar Dhawan.

Very silly with this new Ashes Zone on Sky's Cricket coverage.

Nasser was in a suit in the comm box, they cross to him in the Ashes Zone and he is in Ashes polo shirt. Why ?

It's easier to play shots with the bat in a polo shirt than it is in a full suit.

What shots ? He was showing on a screen where the bowlers were bowling to Ian Bell. Didnt pick up a bat at all.

I think it is a needless gimmick and i think has been brought in mainly because of the overload of commentators we have now.

Sky are innovative but this seems pointless to me, maybe it has been brought in to explain to the casual fan what is going on, but aren't we all cricket fans if we are tuning in?

Mark Nicholas introduced him as being with them for the whole series, which is great news.

Saturday 13th July - Sky Sports 1

Live Super Rugby

James Gemmell presented alongside Michael Lynagh and Sean Fitzpatrick

Blues v Chiefs - Tony Johnson and Matthew Cooper (as Sky Sport New Zealand)

New South Wales Waratahs v Queensland Reds - Greg Clark, Phil Kearns and Rod Kafer (as Fox Sports Australia)

ACT Brumbies v Western Force - Sean Maloney, Greg Martin and Brendan Cannon (as Fox Sports Australia)

Anyone find themselves watching any of these games at the weekend? I don't normally watch the Super 15 but found myself tuned in to a bit of the Waratahs v Reds game on Saturday morning. I'm putting it down to post-British & Irish Lions withdrawal symptoms.

Saturday 13th & Sunday 14th July - Sky Sports 3

Fish'O'Mania XX

Rob Palmer presented from Cudmore Fisheries, Staffordshire alongside Keith Arthur (both days), Matt Hall (Saturday's Grand Final) and Des Shipp (Sunday's International)

Bankside reporters: Ali Shaw (nee Douglas), Julie Collier, Rob Dorsett, Bryn Law, Andy Ford and Rob Hughes

The above information comes from Keith's interviews on his talkSPORT radio show A Fisherman's Blues from over the weekend, so there may have been a few bankside reporters who he forgot to mention. Keith was talking to his regular cover host Nigel Botherway, who always stands in for Keith on A Fisherman's Blues during Fish'O'Mania. As such Nigel, who is a regular correspondent on Tight Lines, wasn't in Staffordshire for Sky Sports.

Shame Sky didn't take a leaf out of 5's book and get an Australian in their commentary box for the whole series.

Thought it was quite a poor show, surprised they didn't wheel out Mike Brearley and Ray Illingworth to add to the collection of Sky England captains in the booth, poor Mikey Holding who is excellent must have felt right out of place.

Oh for the days of Richie Benaud, that is one reason why it is a pity there is no live cricket on terrestrial TV, when Richie hung up his UK microphone.

I know that Shane Warne was unavailable to poker commitments, but why not have Michael Slater or someone like that to fill in. I know that the booth was full by adding Strauss but why not an Aussie for balance instead.

Channel 9 have Mark Nicholas and he is excellent and balanced whoever he is commentating on, no wonder they extended his contract.

The cricket was brilliant but i thought that some of the commentary was lacklustre.

Slater is part of the Studio team for Channel 9's coverage in Australia, which incidentally is airing on digital station "GEM" rather than the main network.

He also presents the "NRL Footy Show" during the Rugby League season so is quite busy.

Nine incidentally are taking Sky's commentary and it seems Warne is now in the country to join Sky from Thursday onwards.

Surely they could have used one of their 'big bash' commentators or is that thinking a bit outside the box?

I suppose Sky though there would only be no Australian commentator for one test and they balance up the highlights show with Tom Moody.

I didn't know that Slats was doing the Footy Show now, i used to watch it in the Setanta days, quite a good laugh sometimes, he has become quite versatile now. How long has he been doing that for?

I know the Channel 9 guys are doing the coverage from Australia, is that just analysis i presume? Good job i suppose, it keeps Ian Chappell away from Beefy.

Hold on? Aussies are covering the Ashes from Australia and taking Sky commentary feed? Is this new? I thought Australia brought their own team to the UK, just like Sky take their team to Aus.

Channel 9 used to many years ago, but the last two ashes series over there have been on SBS which is quite a cheap channel (?). They took Channel 4 and then Sky coverage themselves. This is the first time its been back with Channel 9 and they aren't even showing it on the main network. Its on a Channel called GEM which is kind of an equivalent of ITV putting it on ITV 4 I suppose.

It's also on FOX Sports in Australia, who are also taking Sky commentary.
