Saturday 18th February - BoxNation

WBC Heavyweight Championship: Vitali Klitschko v Dereck Chisora

Jim Rosenthal presented from the Olympiahalle, Munich alongside Steve Bunce and David Haye

Commentators: John Rawling and Paul Smith

John Rawling conducted BoxNation's post-fight interviews with Chisora, Frank Warren and Klitschko in the ring. They also took German host broadcaster RTL's initial post-fight interview with Chisora, which was conducted in English by Kai Ebel.

Going by the clips I've found of the fight on YouTube, I think Paul Dempsey was commentating on their showing of Saturday's WBA Interim Super Middleweight Championship bout, Brian Magee v Rudy Markussen, from the Brondby Hallen in Denmark.

Steve Lillis was BoxNation's roving reporter on the night. It wasn't Paul Dempsey commentating on the Magee fight, but an Irish chap I've heard doing continental boxing international feeds before but never found out what his name his. He doesn't sound a million miles away from Will Downing, but I'm pretty sure it's not him.

Jill Douglas demoted from Rugby Union and Cycling now

Wouldn't say Jill has been demoted from the Rugby. She has only ever been pitchside reporter there. On rare occasion she has presented coverage, usually as cover when Scotland played Italy etc in a dead-rubber

I disagree, she was a host along with John Inverdale and Craig Doyle, then Gabby comes along and she seems to go back to the touchline.

Thanks for the information. I had a look at Will Downing's Twitter feed and it wasn't him, as he usually tweets about the commentary jobs he is doing. In fact he was watching the fight on BoxNation wrote something similar to your post, that he recognised the voice but couldn't put a name to it.

She also went back to being a bit more freelance, which I think had an effect on the Olympic front

I agree with Darren here that Gabby came in and she was demoted. Actually after Craig Doyle left BBC for ITV in 2007 it was Dan Walker that replaced him for some matches in 2008 and 2009.

Heres a question however - Does anyone think Jill Douglas presenting Celtic League Rugby for Setanta had any influence in her demotion?

Scarlets V Benetton Treviso (RaboDirect Pro 12 RU)

(S4C) Gareth Roberts hosting from Parc y Sgarlets with Derwyn Jones in the studio. Commentary from Huw Llewellyn Davies and Gwyn Jones (helpfully plugging the time Scrum V was to be on on Sunday, as he would be on it). Dot Davies is the pitchside reporter with Dafydd Jones, although Dot's umbrella is taking up more TV space than her, as it is that big. Wyn Gruffydd is solo commentator on English language duty.

I thought Richie Benaud had retired from commentary, and was now only doing studio-based interviews and features?

That was announced a few years back but never came to pass. Instead, he seems to be the 'third commentator' amongst the three on air at any one time, dropping in gems of analysis and anecdotes but not calling the actual deliveries in the way that he used to. He also perhaps does less stints than the others. But he is still a great, and at the age of 81, still exceptionally perceptive and makes well-thought out points all of the time. The only thing that is missing is the knighthood.

Unfortunately I have no details of Scrum V Live on BBC Wales as it wasn't available on the BBC Red Button on freeview tonight, instead the BBC Philarmonic Orchestra were playing sporting theme tunes with Colin Murray

My God - these wittering women were SO annoying. They just never stopped babbling on - it was relentless. And their bias towards their beloved White Ferns was blatant (for example, raving about how great it was that they scored a single off the first ball - wow). I was surprised they didn't use at least some of their male counterparts for their coverage, like Sky do for their coverage of England women's matches in England, to give the commentary at least some sense of professionalism. Just as well England won all 3 games, to make viewing them bearable.

(Even my Kiwi sister-in-law doesn't like these female commentators, before anyone accuses me of sexism.)

'twas Ross Harries, Robert Jones and Tom Shanklin in Llandaff, with commentary from Gareth Charles and Shane Horgan. Phil Steele and Paul Wallace were pitchside.

Ex-Ospreys coach Sean Holley was with Rick O'Shea in the 'Redzone'. Alun Jenkins a Derwyn Jones oedd yr sylwebbwyr gymraeg.

Ah, thanks for the information. I was extremely grateful to Richie for what he wrote in the last edition of the News of the World about the importance of sub-editors. As a working journalist myself, it meant a lot to have a man of his calibre endorsing them in an era when such jobs are under threat. Richie had been with the NOTW for many, many decades.

I'm pleased that he's still working as a commentator, albeit in a reduced role.

Ok, apologies for this - so sorry

But I am a bloke and its a bit blokey, but who do you think is the fittest of the 4 Rugby Union women that do the on field interviews ?

Sarra Elgin ? Jill Douglas ? Sonja McClaughlan ? Dot Davies ?

All 4 are excellent at their roles but who catches the eye the most ?

England V Wales (RBS Six Nations RU)

(S4C) Gareth Roberts hosting pitchside from Twickenham (before moving to their studio at half time) with Gareth Edwards, Nicky Robinson and Shane Williams, with commentary from Huw Llewellyn Davies and Gwyn Jones. Interviews were from Dot Davies. Brynmor Williams was analyst in the tactics truck.

With an hour from the end of the game until the programme finished, Huw and Gwyn stayed in their commentary position, and you could see to Gwyn's right the amount of space the BBC took up.

That is a terribly sexist question and has no place on this forum.

Dot Davies for me, very fit with a sexy voice.
