could another channel pick it up...
I don't know TBH. The BBC Red Button stream could be used, but I'm sure I read somewhere that when the streams were cut from 4 to 1 (or whatver it was) that it would mean that extra sports (ie - minority) would suffer as a result.

The only channel I can think of that would even contemplate taking an interest would be Premier Sports.

To those who this may interest. Sky's US Open tennis coverage will mainly be on Sky Sports 3 (first week) and Sky Sports 1 (second week) instead of Sky Sports 2 which normally carries the baulk of the fortnight. I'm not sure if this affects anyone though as Sky Sports is no longer available via BT anyway?

A bit of a shame for those of us on Virgin who'd like to watch the first week in HD, mind.

It also affects anyone on VM hoping to watch it in HD - as VM only has SS1HD and SS2HD.

World Athletics Championships on BBC1 from 6am this morning

Hosted by Jonathan Edwards ( who I think has really now matured into a very good anchor, he asks some very good questions ) with Paula Radcliffe and Colin Edwards

Commentators - Steve Cram, Paul Dickenson and Andrew Cotter

I am wondering if the ubiquitous Mr Cotter will be promoted to number 2. He was doing a few track events whilst Paul Dickenson was doing mainly the field stuff. Be interesting to see who does what once Jonathan Edwards returns to commentary and does the field event stuff.

Eurosport:- Martin Gillingham, Chris Dennis (morning session, and alongside MG for the Women's Marathon) and Tim Hutchings. Sebastian Tiffert and Maurice Green in the Eurosport on-site studio (see Here) as well as interviewing athletes. Andy Bodfish doing voiceover packages.

As of the end of Day 1, I've still yet to hear Tim go into rant mode about the doping 'regimes' of Eastern European/German athletes of the 80s. Fingers crossed though.

Haha, sadly the best we got from him today was his rant about not being able to move the lanes up in the Decathlon 400m

For the world feed Peter Matthews, Steve Ovett and Rob Walker. I'm not a fan of Rob Walker as a track and field commentator. A bit falsely overenthusiastic with a tendency to state the obvious.

Is Rob doing track and Peter doing field events ? Like he used to on itv ?

Anybody else thinking Andrew Cotter is moving ahead of Paul Dickinson in the BBC pecking order ?

It look's like it but I must say cotter is much better at the track events than Dickinson ever was.

He is very good, so versatile too and a great turn of phrase. I think he is the modern day Barry Davies.

No, they are sharing track and field, with Steve Ovett track only.

We're this close to it actually happening, as he was about to mention 'those years' in the run up to the Women's 400m semi finals on Monday before being sidetracked. Tensions are rising

Cycling - Eneco Tour

Declan Quigley and Brian Smith for British Eurosport

Correction: Steve Ovett was commentating on the women's pole vault yesterday, so all three are involved in both.

The IAAF are putting the races up on YouTube this time shortly after they are run.

Matthews and Ovett have been together on the World Championships world feed for quite a few years, since at least 2003.

Top 14 tonight - Montpellier v Toulon on BT Sport and will be Alastair Eykyn commentating. So no Gillingham. Tom May and Simon Shaw are studio guests.

Friday 16th August - BT Sport 1

Live Top 14 Rugby Union: Montpellier Herault v Toulon

Jill Douglas presenting from the studio alongside Simon Shaw and Tom May

Commentators: Alastair Eykyn and Tom May

Craig Doyle conducted a (pre-recorded) interview with Jonny Wilkinson during the build-up.

As we've seen during their European football coverage, this is another case of a studio pundit for their lengthy build-up doubling up as co-commentator. At the top of the programme, Jill mentioned that BT Sport would be showing a decent amount of live games from the Top 14 (I think she may have said 45 live games but I could well be wrong).
