Don't bite my head off nor nowt but are you not taking this all a bit Strictly?

Can't you just enjoy it without taking it so seriously?

Is there a support group you can join, perhaps? I mean, the collapse of the financial system and turmoil in the Arab states pale into insignificance against the terrible scandal of a TV show being pre-recorded. Maybe the very least you can demand is a helpline number at the end of Strictly Come Dancing to assuage your trauma? At least, a helpline of some kind would seem appropriate.

If it was just a dancing competition it would be boring, similarly if it was just an entertainment show, it would collapse quite quickly. What I think is special about SCD is that it manages to balance dance and entertainment. A lot of the celebs can't dance for toffee but that doesn't stop them being entertaining, and then there's the sheer joy of watching someone who can really "tango", aka Harry or Chelsee. If it was just a dance show, I don't think i'd watch, though I'm as critical as the next man when they don't get their lines or steps!

Surely to be conned you must be unaware of what is being obfuscated.

I meant that it is a dancing competition as well as an entertainment show,I did not mean that I wanted a straight dancing competition,If it's just an entertainment show what is the point of the judges of marking the dances.
It can be both can it not and it's wrong for the BBC or anybody to make out that it is just an entertainment show because if it is why not do away with the professional dancers.

The same way that Christmas specials that are recorded before Christmas pretend it's Christmas in the episode? The same way Countdown mentions the date sometimes even though it's recorded weeks in advance? The same way David Letterman pretends it's night time even though his show is recorded in the afternoon?

I believe it's called 'making TV'. I'd suggest either getting over it or switching off. I don't mean that to be dismissive, but seriously, why get upset/annoyed?

Flaviawow,

I'm not a great lover of the Sunday results show but see the why it's been moved and am only grateful it is not padded out to an hour long borefest.

As for the judges scores, it's all part of the entertainment package. Craig's acid tongue and Len's grumpy gramps comments add value to this entertainment show. I realised it was never going to be a straight forward dance show when Julian Clary made the first final. He was huge fun to watch..... Not the best dancer!

Hmm...

Hmm...

What to say.

I think you shouldn't take TV so seriously. I could explain how you appear to have a very naive faith in the manipulation that is TV but that would just be of no use - you already know that but don't want to believe it. If you want fantasy - accept it but don't begin an inquisition because when you inquire you always find rats.

Curiosity is always a harsh bed fellow.

This has always been the case from the first series and Christopher Parker. There were arguments within the family as to whether it was a dance competition or an entertainment show, in the end I rang the BBC and they said it was entertainment.
To complain that the Sunday show is recorded on Saturday seems rather daft. Christmas shows can be recorded as early as July and Doctor Who never really leaves earth so why can't SCD record their results show on a Saturday?

What I really meant is that it is a dancing competition and an entertainment show, not that it should just be a dancing competition. My point was that the BBC was saying that it was only an entertainment show & NOT a dancing competition as well.

Try looking at it similar to the Generation Game.

Second bit first
They needed the professionals to show the contestants what to do

A bunch of Morris Dancers would come on and ponce about with hankies and bells to show the contestants what they are supposed to do.

First but second
The professionals/experts would judge them on how well they did,

Nobody really though just because they did something reasonablreasonably well they were all of a suden great Morris Dancers any more than they were if they did someting reasonable good with a lump of clay they were potters, it's all part of a fun game/competition.

More is expected of the contestants because they get a longer time to learn a routine.

If next year it were done as a "proper" dancing competition the show would be dead by the final as viewing figures would have depth charged.

All illegal lifts would get them penalised so even a good dancer doing a good dance could get 2. Every mistake no matter how inexperienced they are would get them penalised and they would get a 2. The use of props would get them penalised or even eliminated from the competition.

I've said on more than one once that this is not and never will be a dancing competition all the while you have out of shape, unfit, fat and old people on the show.

If it were a dance competition, Widdy, Sergeant, Russell, Edwina, Gloria Hunniford, Ester Rantsen, Tarby and the like were never ever going to win the thing, so why bother putting them in a "dancing" contest?
