SCD 2012 to be broadcast from Salford?
Stunty
10-12-2011
As the BBC are moving to Salford by next April, is it right to assume that the SCD and It Takes Two will be broadcast from there?

Is it the end for the 'concrete doughnut' in Wood Lane?

I hope not, it wouldn't seem right "Live, from Manchester, this is Strictly Come Dancing"...

Only some parts of the BBC are moving to Salford.

Hope so! Only live 10 mins away from Media City

Media City is a massive complex, lots of talk about "refuseniks" at the moment, but believe me, an awful lot of the BBC will be going there eventually.

TVC is being sold, but there seems to be a plan that the studios (or a large number of them, including TC1) are kept and that the BBC could lease them back. After all, the BBC will still need studio space in the south east, and I believe that they currently rent out studio space when necessary elsewhere. SCD could/should be no different (especially as the BBC has never stated that programme production will cease in London).

Snap! (Well a bit further than 10 mins, but pretty close!) We went there to see a show being recorded already, it's a great place

Would at least be an option for them.

The Salford place seems purpose built and of a new age.

There was an article in the Telegrah this week deriding the concrete doughnut as old and out-dated.

However would Brucie travel to Manchester each week? He can't manage the late nights as it is? From that point of view perhaps it will stay in TVC.

Media City wasn't built for people of Brucie's era.
It represents the future.

"I'm reliably informed" that eventually the only BBC presence in London will be Broadcasting House, which will be entirely taken up by the palatial offices of Mark Thompson and Alan Yentob and possibly Fiona Bruce.

Not forgetting the whole BBC News operations (national and international), plus other staff as detailed here (perhaps a bit more reliable than whoever informed you )

Quote:
“n 2013, some 5,000 journalists, programme-makers, managers and other staff will be shipped here from historic BBC buildings elsewhere, including Television Centre in Shepherd's Bush and Bush House in Aldwych, home of the World Service. The aim of this eye-popping expenditure is to bring TV, radio and online operations together, increasing efficiency while reducing costs, by getting rid of a plethora of properties across town.”

And in case anyone thinks otherwise, the cost of this project was borne by a public-private partnership involving a special bond, no LF money was involved.

Translated, the Labour government put pressure on the BBC to move everything to Salford, presumably so that Hazel Blears could be a regular contributor. If you believe the stuff about PFI, then... Who do you think pays for PFI in the end? We do, the taxpayer. That's if there's any money left from all the rail, air fares and hotel bills that will be incurred shipping politicians and celebrities up to Salford so they can appear on the news. Ludicrous. London is the capital city and thats where news should come from, for practical reasons if for no other.

At the moment I understand her wardrobe is being stored in two forty-foot artics parked in the TV Centre carpark, so some sort of other accommodation will eventually be necessary.

Well, if Terry Wogan couldn't be assed to come into TV Centre Points to present "Points of View," or record it after one of his radio programmes, so they did it from a hotel at the bottom of his road..... That he did it in his pyjamas is an unsubstantiated rumour.

Most people are amazed that there is life north of Watford!!

I think Brucie likes to go home to his own bed after Strictly, doubtful whether he would like the long slog 'up north' each week.

He wouldn't be able to play golf at Wentworth on Sunday mornings if he had to travel to Salford.

And which week? I mean he goes home on a Saturday because he's too tired to record the Sunday show on a Saturday which is actually Sunday on Planet BBC

I think it's more he doesn't like hanging about for half an hour or so on Saturday night and then have to start all over again.

A thought shared by the viewing public who unless they look on here have to wait until Sunday for the result in a programme that's 90% a waste of space.

Also bearing in mind he is aged 84 and has been at the TVC most of the day for rehearsals, dress rehearsals etc.

It's a long day for an oldie, but paid very nicely though!

What's the betting that if they do move to Manchester and there are any contestants from the Manchester area then someone will moan that they have an unfair advantage!
