Killing Me Softly Or Someone Like You?
Which song do you prefer? Lauryn Hill's 'Killing Me Softly' song or Adele's 'Someone Like You' song?
I prefer Lauryn's song: it is one of the best songs I have heard and Lauryn is a better singer than Adele, in my opinion. |

Why are these songs being put together in a "whose the best"? There is zero connection.

LOL. Where does it say "whose the best"? I just asked which song people prefer, not which song is the best.
If you don't want ppl to say which one is best, why title the thread:Killing Me Softly Or Someone Like You? Contrived and now bizarre thread. Anyway, daddy or chips?

-the ORIGINAL by Roberta Flack
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O1eOsMc2Fgg That's out of personnel choice, I'm sure many prefer Adele. Lauryn Hill doesn't even come into it-great singer, but she really didn't add anything to the original (IMO). |

I wonder if the OP actually knows it's a cover? I actually saw Roberta Flack singing this live many many years ago and it was amazing and very hard to better IMO.

I prefer Van Morrison's Someone Like You. Vastly superior to Adele's song, or any of her stuff, come to that.

Lauryn Hill butchered a classic so Adele for me. Anyone who thinks this is a daft thread need only ignore it.

At first, I really questioned the Op's motivations behind this thread with so many of them having a pro/anti-Adele agenda in them, and failing to see the point of this one altogether. But to his/her defense, it's true s/he's not asking which song is best, but which one do we prefer. It's not the most oddly random thread I've seen on here and won't be the last so why not?...Anyway, there's no relation between the songs so preferring one over the other sounds a bit strange. I like both of them for different reasons.
As for debating on which version of KMS we prefer sounds more interesting to me though. And I'd go for the Fugees's version - It's clearly a Lauryn Hill moment but still pretty much a Fugees composition as opposed to the original which is Roberta Flack's solo rendition - only because it's re-imagined the song in a different way and so made it completely their own. In this instance, it shows how gifted of a singer Lauryn Hill is. not trying or even wanting to put both singers against each other as I think they both are tremendous vocalists in their own right but I've always been a fan of Lauryn's vocals and thought hers made the song more than a mere hi-hop version of a classic. |

Killing Me Softly is such a classic! Roberta had such a raw but funky bassline to it....sensational....The Fugees cover was also just immense.
I like Adele but that song grates on me so so much. |

I much prefer 'Killing Me Softly', Roberta Flack's original is a classic soul song and Lauryn Hill did a great job covering it, she couldn't fail to really with a voice like hers. 'Someone Like You' is a nice enough ballad but I've never really understood the acclaim.
