My Top 5 are:

Depeche Mode
Pet Shop Boys
Kylie
IAMX
Patrick Wolf

However, I do like a lot of songs from the 60s right up to the 90s. The only genres I'm not overly keen on are RnB and country.

Top 5 based on personal feelings and how many Last.fm plays in the last 4 years:

Kate Bush - there's always something new to appreciate with her, no matter how much you've listened and absorbed her work, she'll always have other surprises.

Madonna - when I first started listening to her I didn't know what I should expect, I thought I'd be hearing mainly catchy pop songs but with no real life or heart to them, I was wrong. The scope of her work is incredible, and (mainly) very consistent, she always has a new sound, but still remains very 'Madonna'.

The Cure - Disintegration is my favourite album of all time. They always looked for a new direction and most of the time the result was fantastic.

The Smiths - It's amazing what they achieved in such a short time period - their discography is stellar.

Kirsty MacColl - Underrated massively, her voice is like honey, her albums are all fantastic imo, and her death was a massive loss to music. RIP.

I like a lot of chart acts (Rihanna, Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, The Saturdays, Pixie Lott, Britney Spears) but also some non-chart/less successful artists. Here's a few:

Sophie Ellis-Bextor
Roisin Murphy
Ladyhawke
Marina and the Diamonds
Jennifer Hudson
Little Boots
Monrose (German girl band, similar sound to Sugababes)

Have a listen to some of those acts. A lot of them either didn't chart or were less successful but their music is really good

If you're looking for new (ie unknown) bands to champion then I'd offer:

Living Dead Lights - bit loud but got something going on there

or my friend's son's band - Tank Trap.

Other than that just buy Appetite for Destruction and listen to it for the rest of your life..................

Forgot about both of them. They're good. I'm more a casual Beyonce fan though so I've never heard or bought any of the albums but I like quite a few of her singles.

Metallica. I know a lot of people think metal is a noise but it's not - they just don't give it a chance.
