Would Little Mix have got to the final without the 'weight sob story'?

Serious question... because I think that awfully contrived VT was the turning point for them, and the point where they began to get sympathy votes. If that's the case, then it's a huge shame, as Misha for example is bigger than the tubby one who was crying in the VT, but we didn't see her crying over her weight. Maybe if she had, she might've made the final too.

If the combined sobbing of Kelly Rowland and Misha B over the latter's absent mother in arguably the most manipulative and blatant sob story ever seen on the show was not enough to get her into the final, then I doubt whinging about her weight would have done the job either.

True, but Misha's sob story had no other routes it could take. Where as Little Mix's had the opportunity to branch out into becoming just your 'normal girl next door' type of propeganda.

get out of here! Talent is what shone through this year with Little Mix.

You seem to have a little problem regarding people that are over a size 10 I think. Talent and beauty are not linked to a persons size, as is being a great person, normally the opposite.

I think the performance AFTER that VT is the turning point for them, which is, the ET performance. So there you go.

The honest answer is no...without the sympathy vote they'd have just been another generic girl group eliminated in week 4...unfortunately a sympathy vote does not translate into record sales...Michelle McManus will attest to that...

I don't have a problem with anyone's size, quite the opposite infact. I have a problem with people using their size in a way which attracts sympathy votes.

Yes, Jesy's weight issues had a dual purpose. Sympathy and marketing. Very clever, especially with the song choice that week.

It is a fact, it is about her, it was obviously going to come out. Lest face it, Im sure there was enough written about her size on here too. Why not mention it and challenge directly the sizeists out there.

I fully suspect that the problem came up in convesation while filming and get used, not that it was set up for the effect.
Lets face it, most people would not say anything about it for fear of adding fuel to the fire.

I'm sorry, but if you think that the topic of her weight issues (which she doesn't have anyway) came up spontaneously during the filming of their VT, then I think you're very mistaken It looked as contrived as the Desperate Scousewives.

I find it comical that anyone could think that the only reason they got to where they are is because of a sob story.
They have gotten this far IMHO because:-
The can all sing and dance
They are versatile
They have the likeability factor
They are humble
They take on board constructive criticism
They have a genuine chemistry friendship
Out of all the acts they have grown the most and benefited the most from the xfactor

You find it comical that people have differing opinions to your own? That's a good stance to take I suppose.

Like my opinion expressed in the OP, that list is your opinions and in my opinion, your opinions are 'comical'.

The whole thing was a hoax. Have you seen the size of those girls? They're all about 5ft 2 tall and the supposedly "fat" one is probably no more than a stone heavier than the rest of them.

None of these points suggest that anyone will want to actually buy their recordings, though.

Personally they bore me rigid, and the plump one irritates me as well.

they are pretty good as far as girl groups go. the thing is they have backed up the hype with good performances. the weight issue may have been the turning point in terms of people finally buying into the girls next door scenario. however, they were not at risk before that by being in the bottom two and haven't been since. so maybe people got them, before that vt.

`miss frank` was hyped up just as big as `little mix` initially. however, they didn't connect with the audience the same way `little mix` have. after being constructed by the show and having to deal with the embarrassing name change. their journey hasn't been easy to be fair and i am pleased they have got to the final 2. a win would be a bonus, but i suspect simon will sign them anyway.

They made a VT out of bad things written on the internet...I cannot think of any act in the history of the X Factor who hasn't had bad things written about them...

It gets more ridiculous everytime I think about it.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if when we find out the %s that they were just staying out of the bottom 2(3) nearly every week.

Then for some reason it was as if Tommy had brought a Transformer in to school and then Harry went home and asked his mum for one then half the class had one.

it wouldn't surprise me at all either. a girl band has never succeeded before after all. still they have managed to get to the final against all the odds, that`s an achievement in itself.

Do you not remember how it was before that video package? Everyone here was really rude and only referred to her as "sloth". I think it's good they referred to it on the show since it seemed to stop all those disgusting names you people were calling her

i do remember that and it was uncalled for. like i said at the time, they should have banned the contestants from accessing the internet. i remember one guest mentor telling american idol finalists not to google their name. the best advice i have heard so far and i do feel for anyone that reads abusive comments about themselves.

if people are correct and it turns out that this was the turning point for little mix. then at least something positive has come out of such a negative situation.
