It was mentioned on one of the earlier live shows that it's an original song written by Gary Barlow.

As for the 2 songs the acts are going to sing I'm guessing that one of them will be their favourite from the series and the other will be the winner's song.

That's what I was wondering? Did Gary just not bother when he was told that his acts weren't likely to win?

Well one of his acts came second so I doubt it.

I would imagine X Factor bosses listened to Run For Your Life and decided it wasn't such a good idea after all. Barlow has no track record of writing hits for any act except Take That.

i never understood in recent years why it had to be a cover does not that defeat the object a little why not a song written by the act to fit the confines of the genre in which they want to work thus giving the public a true gauge of each acts talents rather than lame Karaoke.

But to be fair let's not get carried away - X Factor never has been a singing contest - it's light entertainment.

Because there are plenty of popular acts who don't write their own material. Expecting some teenagers to suddenly write something is a bit much.

They should have used the track he wrote for Geraldine McQueen 'Winners Song'.

The winners are chosen based on their ability to sing other peoples songs, so that's what they do for the winners single as well. Makes perfect sense to me!

Sort of. I'm sure popularity comes into the equation at some point.

Ah true, however I was trying to limit my comments to the music as this is the music forum etc.

To be honest I'm still not entirely comfortable with myself for commenting on the X Factor at all in the music forum, so I think I'll leave it at that.

I was actually thinking of that during last night's show and this in particular:
