Witch hazel

Does anybody use this as a toner?

From what i've heard it's designed more for oily skin. I have combination skin (oliy in the t zone, normal in cheeks) and was told i could use the witch hazel on my t zone but use a less harsh toner on other parts of my skin such as cheeks as they appear normal. Can somebody clarify this is correct? Reason i am asking is because a friend thought the witch hazel is too harsh on my cheeks making them appear red after i've used it.

Thanks in advance.

I used Witch Hazel for a while but it made my skin worse. I had really bad break outs on my chin and the product didn't make a blind bit of a difference, it just irritated them further. The spot stick thing didn't work either.

A beauty therapist told me that a lot of these products completely strip the skin of its natural oils, so your skin improves for the first week or so but then get worse becayse your skin is producing excess oil. Clearasil dried my skin out so much my nose was peeling!

The only over the counter product that's ever worked for me is Clinique - but it's very expensive and I can't guarantee it'll work for you.

Not as a toner, no. I think pure witch hazel is too harsh for that. Toners with witch hazel usually have at least one other ingredient in them to balance the effects.

I also have combination skin. I used to use Boots tea tree & witch hazel products, but now I use pretty much any toner (whatever's on offer usually) and only specifically look for combination skin products when I'm buying a moisturiser. Toners all do pretty much the same job! If you're using a product that's specifically for combination skin, then use it all over your face. I think your face is more likely to break out if you use two separate toners on it at the same time.

It's primary use is as an astringent so deffo too harsh!

I use a Witch stick (little green thing) on a spot when they first feel that one is coming and it stops it in it tracks. Wouldnt be without one.

But I wouldnt use witch hazel as a toner as it is too much of an astringent.

Thanks for the replies.

So if it's too harsh will it cause my skin to break out and dry out?

I find it odd though, as i bought it off a site and it said it can be used as a toner....it's called salon professional which i found through amazon.

I wouldn't use it as a toner, but it works well for spots and other blemishes like bruises.
