I was lucky enough to be at the NFT today where these were shown. Mark Gattis introduced the finders (an ex BBC engineer if I heard correctly) and then let VC roll without telling us which episodes they were. Both looked great with the Troughton episode in particular being a joy (he plays recorder, gets to dress up a bit, play the fool, etc)

A great coup that news had not really leaked out before and renewed hope for others to turn up

Woop-woop.

It's a step in the right direction.
I've always been curious about Galaxy 4, as it's quite an unusual title for a Dr Who adventure.

I love the soundtrack CD for Galaxy Four. The Underwater Menace I listened to just a week ago, and I wasn't impressed.Still, kjwilly liked it, so that's a good start ...

Fantastic news just shows to never give up hope of more episodes turning. The Troughton one looks to be in particularly good condition.

This is THE ONLY news that matters about Doctor Who this year.

I could cry with joy at the return of two of our fallen comrades.

Great news after years of nothing, but to have not only one returned, but TWO missing episodes together; well....its Christmas come early for us DW fans! Im sure that there ARE others still out there, lying around in archives or in dusty collections.

Very good news.

I'd have preferred them to be two different episodes if I'm being honest but any decrease in the number of missing episodes is always great news.

This is really superb news.Thank heavens for film collectors.
I am really hoping that there are more out there.

I have watched a few of the Patrick Troughton stories recently and am really impressed by him. He has a quality where I can't take my eyes off him. I have Troughton love

This is what I love about Dr Who: its not just the mystery IN the program, its the mystery OF the program.

I would propose the following optimistic title for the DVD release:

Doctor Who: Found in Time, volume 1.

That contains one of my favourite Troughton lines:

Just one small question ... why do you want to blow up the world?

This is absolutely fantastic news! I can't wait to see the missing episodes, and with any luck they'll be followed soon by others.

What fantastic news!

Hopefully, they'll put the unrestored versions up on iPlayer as quickly as possible so that they can get some sort of official viewing figure before they leak out onto a torrent.

Not really ,

It seems it was to stop lots of Who fans turning up and "blocking" the people who were there for other shows getting tickets .

Why didn't they just have a separate showing for Who ?

How can it be xmas come early if we have to wait for a 2012 DVD release to watch them! What they should do is air them on BBC1 on xmas day!

I am pleased about Galaxy Four episode 3 that can now go with the clip from episode 1.

Underwater Menace - meh - but at least its been recovered and teh story is now 50% complete and we can't be too ungrateful it wasn't Power of the Daleks or something better!!!!

We don't know what state they are in. They need to be preserved to prevent further damage before restoration.

Apparently the episodes were those sent to ABC in Australia so there are censor cuts in the Troughton that need restoration.

How they ended up at a school fete in Southampton is another matter.

Australia have already returned the cuts, they are on the Lost in Time DVD, so these can easily be reinserted.
Why if you are a film collector just let these films collect dust in teh first place? If I was a film collector I'd at least play what I have and keep a log!

I know whats left on my VHS tapes that I still have hanging about!

Shouldn't be too much or a problem there - the censor clips of 'The Underwater Menace' episode two recovered in the early nineties were in fact taken from the very print that's just been returned (so I gather, anyway) so it's pretty much just a matter of slotting them back in at the right place...
