Foxsat HDR File transfer over network
stringman
11-12-2011
Hi all

sorry for the potential noob question but:

Just got the box installed and tomorrow i will be hooking it into my home network ( 1 wired pc 3 wireless laptops)

is it easy to get the foxsat to become part of the network?

Once it is part of the network I was hoping that rather than archiving SD content to a portable HDD via USB i could transfer the files via the network. is this possible?

Using that theory could i then use the network to stream audio (mp3) files and video files ( think they have to be converted if they are not recordings from the humax) to the box?

Thanks in advance

You can't stream content to the box but you can do a lot of other clever things (including the reverse) but you need a patched firmware.

Graham,

Thanks for the prompt reply. I have come accross that thread and have bookmarked it for later.

Reading another one of your posts on another forum ( you are a busy man!) it seems that once i Have raydons software on then i can do all that i want.

Can i just impose on you briefly once more?

it seems from the multitude of posts i have read that you can watch recorded files from elswhere on the network whilst the box is being used ie my son can watch a recorded prog on his laptop whilst we are using the box downstairs?

from this software can i copy the files to my pc or laptop? and if so is it a simple drag and drop.

is the network setup easy ie just plug and play and then set the homegroup and thats it

thanks yet again

Correct but only for SD recorded content. HD recordings are encrypted (there are ways round this but you have to use the box as a fta box and manually initiate recordings)

Yes the Foxsat will appear just like any other device in File Explorer

Pretty much, for BBCi player, ITV player etc you don't need to do anything other than connect it to your router.

Graham

thanks so much for that.
Just trailed the cat 5 accross the house and accessed the I players.
so its just a matter of reading raydons guid and getting with it.

thanks again

At last I have bought a S/H recorder and got it up and running in the usual humax easy way, but was hoping to be able to show HD clips from Utube by putting them on the stick in the USB Socket but I could only get some pictures across, I really wanted to run "This is Cinerama" moment on the projector without havong to connect the laptop to the projector and a cable across the room to the AV amp. Is it posssible? I got an still picture from BBC Iplayer but nothing else.

"S/H recorder" ? With a Humax HDR you can convert video to playable format with a program called AV2HDR, so if you can get the clips off utube (I believe there are programs for that) you should be able to show it.

It's a rar compressed file not a PKzip file.

Try

I believe AV2HDR requires the net framework to be installed.
