Twice before. They were the ones that 'inspired' Brendan for bacofoil
I think they were also on 2 years ago where they had a mishap in the middle of it.

I enjoyed it but thought it was really gymnastics.

I'd hate to see any of the finalists attempting anything like that!

I'm not bothered that it wasn't ballroom dancing - I thought it was fabulous. (Just hope the pros and celebs don't take it as inspiration ).
I agree on all points.

I really enjoyed it as a spectacle, but, as Len would say, where was the dance content?

- There was a lot on show, but not a lot of dance

I dare the celebrities to do stuff like that. We can prepare three crack ambulance crews and see who gets to the hospital first.
I wondered what the story was for that dance? Something like "OMG a fairy sprite keeps throwing herself at me and all I can do to keep her from chewing my nuts is to spin her around like pizza dough"

It's the same every year.

The one time when Brendan did use this kind of 'dance' (do forgive me) as inspiration led to the infamous Bacofoil fiasco. And we know all too well how that ended.

I've definitely seen them do this (or similar) before - but not sure it was on Strictly (DwtS last season, maybe, or SYTYCD US?)...I can't remember

Weren't the bacofoil inspiration peeps Hanna Haararlaralaarla* and partner?

Hanna Karttunen and Victor Da Silva. I don't think the couple we saw today have danced on Strictly before.

I loved Hanna and Victor's "one night only" exhibition dance, but I'm baffled by the producers repeatedly inviting exhibition dancers to demonstrate showdances. The dance at the start of tonight's result show was a much better example of a showdance.

Each year, the guests' exhibition dance is my least favourite bit of Strictly - each to their own, though.

I think they might have been better off inviting a gynaecologist, showing them how not to attempt lifts.

I appreciate the skill, but as others have said it's gymnastics to music, and not something I want as a showdance from the couples.

Okay, I’m almost scared to ask, but I’m pretty new to Strictly, so pardon my ignorance, but…

What was the bacofoil incident, and how is my beloved Brendan involved?!

I don't think so - the spider move where she rolls up is a Natalie and Craig move. Brendan copied it with Lisa and he looked like he wasn't quite going to make it.

No - they have been on before.

^^^ Thanks cymrugirl - I don't remember much about series 7 (my least favourite series)

In series 6, Brendan danced a rather interesting showdance with Lisa Snowdon, his partner. I think the fact that the judges kept saving her from dance-offs and overmarking her (80/80 in the final) resulted in a lot of negativity around her before the showdance. The showdance was danced after they were eliminated (3rd place) and was clearly inspired by the exhibition dance shown the previous week. Sadly for them Brendan's bright idea didn't quite work, and the infamous Bacofoil Showdance was born - bacofoil from her silver dress.

It is only worth watching with Monkseal's step by step pictorial guide "explaining" every move

It comes with a health warning but I'll link to the one with the comments so it won't be as traumatising!

:yawn::yawn::yawn:

They trot something like this out every year at the semi finals. For goodness sake change the record SCD Producers. Now we have the stomach churning wait to see who will try something similar for their show dance

I agree Victor and Hanna's was good

Indeed.... I have only ever seen it just that once and it was more than enough. Lisa's awkward writhing on the floor, the 'will they make it?' roll up lift where Brendan looked like he was hauling timber... *shudders*

Have managed to forget most of it though, so I daren't click on that link above or I'll get full Bacofoil flashback.

As for tonight's show dance, if you can call it that....sorry, not for me. I do admire their skill and athleticism, and the male dancer's amazing strength - but to be honest I was bored by half way through. There are only so many ways to chuck yourself at your partner and then get thrown up in the air.
