Well, I'm obviously seeing something very different to you then.
Almost every time - with both Kara and Holly - he has stepped back a little when they receive their applause from the audience, in order to allow his partner to be appreciated for her efforts and performance and he generally joins in with it, before stepping back to join her.
He clearly takes his dancing very seriously and expects a lot from his partner but I see that as him wanting his partner to show what she is capable of achieving. Neither Kara or Holly seemed to be full of themselves at any stage and often seemed unsure of their potential and Artem's choreography always played to their strengths. He didn't let either of them down.
I think he is well suited to routines which demand drama and passion and he carries that off very well but I don't see him as dour at all.
People like Gordon Brown are what I'd call dour - not Artem.
