I wish I was as saintly as some of the people in this thread.

To never meet anyone, or see anyone on tv, that I just didn't like. To never encounter a single living soul with mannerisms that annoyed me, or who said things that I thought were stupid. Bliss.

Seems to me that you cant have an opinion that something was a shambles or that a celb bores you to tears without the holier than thou brigade finding it cruel and vindictive
Yet the Apprecaition threads are never encroached by others who find them not to their taste .My opinion on an Apprecaition threads is too each his own .

DS by definition is a discussion board .. its open to discussion . The Appreciation threads are there for the admiration and appreciation , other than that the board is open to all opinions and all thoughts and all who wish to whinge moan or expression love or joy .

I've never been in the "appreciation threads" threads in my life..boring, sycophantic hero worship, in my less than humble opinion.

I'd like to be free to express my distaste for Jason's AT without being told I'm an idiot of the highest order.

But I hope I take it all in good part. I understand that people have their favourites. Jason's supporters are no more moronic for liking him than I am for preferring someone else.

Do calm down, dears. It can't all be 'vicarage tea-party' when people are posting having perhaps imbibed a drop or two of strong liquor.

I joined DS in 2008 & I always recall it sadly like this, but from the past 3 years has been worse. We all have the right of our own opinion, but we should remember always to be respectful. I some of these threads and post are very personal and disrespectful with their comments.

I don't normally post in the main forum because is scary & sad the disrespectful comments people make about the celebrities and professionals, who are working hard to give us a entertainment show to watch every Weekend. I found some comments unnecessary and derogatory toward the celebrities, professionals & presenters.

Fortunately you did not read as I did at 5am this morning (insomnia) before it was removed, a post calling Chelsee a fake c***.

If that's the level on here now, personally I'm glad to be off it.

For those calling Chelsee unintelligent etc. She is bright. You will not learn 2 dances like those and perform without being bright. She is also bright on her replies back to Tess and Bruce and her asides about and to Pasha. I'd 100 times rather have her genuineness and honesty over any of the nasty little 'people' on here who call her unintelligent or worse just because she can't spell very well on twitter and has a northern accent. I also have never heard her say anything derogotary about anyone.

I know what it's like to be picked on and I hope she smashes Blackpool.

The negativity started in Zoe Ball's series - and it was (if I recall correctly) triggered by the judges fawning over her dancing from a very early stage in the competition (week 1 Waltz). From then on she could do no wrong - and she got high marks all the way through - even when she made glaring errors. The judges (I think) cost her the win - as their clear adoration of Zoe not only got her kicked out in third place - it also gave us the most undeserving winner ever - Darren Gough!

You would think that they would learn - but no - next season the panel were so far up Emma Bunton's backside that they did the same thing again..... I seem to recall 9s being given for a very lacklustre jive where Emma practically fell over..... which was stupid as when Louisa came out and blew everyone away with HER Jive - they had nowhere to go except a 10 way too early on in the series.....

It has happened in nearly every series since.... the judges had a clear favourite who could do no wrong - their mistakes weren't penalised where others who made the same mistakes (even in the same dance in the same week) were clobbered. Check out Len's comments on Emma and Louisa's Rumbas.... Louisa was criticised for doing a series of poses - Emma did a very similar dance a few minutes later - and far from getting similar comments from Len - he said something along the lines of that's the way they dance the rumba these days.....

The dance off gave the public the chance for revenge - the voters seemed to take delight in keeping the duffers out of the judges clutches for as long as possible.... and now the dance off has been ditched - a reasonably sensible voting off pattern has come back - we haven't really had anyone outstaying their welcome - and in this series in particular - we have had the right final 5 - the public kept the best dancers until the end....

If the judges commented impartially, and marked everyone the same (EVERYONE loses marks for mistakes - not ignoring some) there would be a lot less bitching on here...

Mind you - you will always get the rabid fans of one celeb or another attempting to put down their darlings rival - that is just humnan nature!

what's being said about Chelsee is pretty outrageous to be honest.

I hope that the majority of my comments relate to how I feel about the person's dancing - I'm not massively interested in their accent, or where they went to school, or if they've had a boob job/botox, or whether they are 'smug' or pre-trained

I like to think that I judge purely based on the dance that evening, which is why despite me not usually connecting with Harry I thought his VW was well worth 4 10s

I want Chelsee to win because she is the dancer that excites and interests me most. If Harry wins that will be fine too although he doesn't do it for me. I won't even mind if Jason wins!

Abba I post on an AT once in a blue moon e.g. after Tom and Camilla's show dance, so I'm happy with them having their own sub-forum. I don't have any problem with people having different opinions because that's what this board is for and I've always loved a good argument. What I have a problem with is how some opinions are expressed because I don't come on here to have the online equivalent of a shouting match or a punch up. Some people do and their numbers are growing.

I didn't see that nancy -- was blissfully asleep at that time. The trouble is that the bitter folk who speak this way are the first to claim freedom of expression. 'It's my opinion' seems to matter a hell of a lot to them, no matter how ill-informed and graceless.

The boobs are only thing that's fake about Chelsee -- everything else is as honest as day and most people will feel that her spontaneity and her naturalness have lit up SCD. Whether she's your favourite or not, she has been one of the unequivocal joys of the show. Her and Pasha.

Buddy....Thats not daft thats exactly how I feel. I used to love this place but this year I have felt increasingly isolated and not welcome...because I dont happen to have the same view as the majority this year. Its beginning to feel to me that they might aswell close down the main SCD forum and just have the non appreciation thread.

With respect, this is a thread about abusive comments etc in the forum. You have posted something that is deliberately pro-Chelsee, that is almost an invitation for negative comments from others defending their favourites..then it all starts again. After all, Jason and Harry have presumably done nothing to upset you. Don't get me wrong, you're entitled to your favourite, I'm just trying to illustrate how everything kicks-off.

But I agree, the comment you saw earlier today was disgusting, but I've never seen anything like that in the SCD forum. Mind you, I've seen similar (and worse) in other DS forums.

I have. One poster signed up just to write some disgustingly spiteful words about Chelsee. Made me furious and I'm not even a Chelsee fan! I think it's totally unnecessary. He/she would never do that but for the anonymity of the forum. It seems to give some people carte blanche to be as nasty as they want.

But posters should be able to support their favourite. Nancy hasn't said a thing against any of the other dancers, or named a group of fans. The only way that her post can be understood to be inflammatory is by assuming we're surrounded by angry morons who can't listen to someone being praised without bridling in fury that their favourite hasn't been similarly praised. Is everyone aged three? You learn to get past absolute tyrannical egotism at that age. By now we should be able to behave with some grace and tolerance.

I posted that one post on here (I don't post elsewhere, have only been twice in appreciation) because the general tone of the forum is not somewhere I like this year and in fact it was the same last year. I used to post 100s of times during a series. Now it seems as Jan says if you don't fit in a certain clique you can't simply comment and comment on your enjoyment of the show. You have to be constantly sarcastic with it. Gets a bit tedious.

I like Harry by the way. He's a very nice boy.

And that is EXACTLY the type of comment which provokes the kind of response that people have been talking about in this thread.

You cannot say Darren Gough was undeserving and not expect some reaction because, clearly, the British public thought he was as they voted for him and made him the winner.
What you should really be saying is that you felt Darren Gough didn't deserve to win for X Y and Z reasons and you'd find the responses wouldn't usually be as aggressive in return.

There's a vast difference between expressing a personal opinion - ie I felt Darren Gough didn't deserve to win - and expressing something as a fact - Darren Gough didn't deserve to win.

No-one DESERVES to win. The people who win are the ones who capture the hearts and minds and the pockets of the viewers to the point at which they are bothered enough to pick up the phone and vote for them.

Donobot? Isn't that the kind of comment you were rallying against in your OP?

The constant sniping against Darren Gough on here drives me up the wall. Fact is, he probably encouraged more people to try dancing than any other winner.

Hi Nancy......lovely to see you I have missed you, and some others that used to be regulars on here both during and between series, who no longer seem to be around. I remember our laughs with nostalgia and I dont think we always saw eye to eye but somehow it never affected us.

Exactly. He was a "bloke's bloke" who was willing to get out and put himself forward knowing he was going to take a load of stick for it. The fact he actually ended up enjoying it so much he kept on doing it and discovered a real love and joy in dancing made him a perfectly legitimate winner.
Was he technically perfect, not by a long shot. Did he improve the most out of the contestants in that year, definitely. Did he demonstrate in every step he took the fact that he had fallen in love with dancing to the point that people wanted to vote for him, absolutely.
And the fact he was able to come back two years later and win the Christmas special shows that he captured the imagination of the viewers enough that they voted him the winner once more.
