Matt Cardle didn't forget the words, he could do Ballad and Up Tempo, he didn't do samey samey every week, he also didn't blame everyone and their mother when he messed up a performance.
Maybe that has something to do with it.

The statement that she was "boring and predictable" is just a subjective viewpoint, an opinion. Clearly it is not one that a huge number of X Factor viewers and voters did not share. Even when Gary Barlow was making those comments, she was still topping the vote, week after week.

Now obviously all those negative comments got to the girl in the end. They would get to anyone in that position, never mind someone her age on a show infront of 10 million being slammed by the judges and with negative press stories being leaked, poor song choices (at least in her opinion) being given her, poor running order slots, etc etc.

So her demeanor did gradually become more negative, even those of us who are her fans could see this. But I contend, this came from the show's treatment of her more than from anything else, based on the evidence before us.

And most unbiased commentators are saying the same things as well. The show is *highly* manipulative.

The thing is Janet has her style and it is predictable, nothing wrong with predictable but it doesnt really fit that show.

As for boring, I dont think anyone told her "Janet you are boring" , they did say " I am getting a bit bored now" and " I found that a bit boring" which was to do with her siong choices and performance of said song when she stuck to her style , not her personally .

As has been pointed out, Marcus and Little Mix also forgot words but the judges somehow "didn't notice".

As for choosing songs, my understanding is that her choice consisted of refusing totally unsuitable songs from a list provided by the producers. She wasn't allowed to choose the music she really liked. So in one sense she could choose and in another she wasn't able to.

The voting stats show that she was doing fine until the judges started to judge tactically. In particular Barlow pulled exactly the same trick on her as on other acts. He regularly said that his acts had given the 'performance of the night/series" when they were patently rubbish and then proceeded to pull apart other acts.

He tried the same tactic with Little Mix but they had the best mentor of the lot to stand up for them and get them back on track. In Janet's case she had an absentee mentor who didn't have a clue as to what would suit her.

Okay, some of you can't stand Janet or her singing but the fact is that she did lead the voting for more than anyone else and only lost popularity after (a) having an arrangement changed at a late stage and (b) being sent to turn on Christmas lights when she needed to learn two new songs.

Nothing will change any of this now. I suspect that if she gets a recording contract where she can choose her own music and own style there will be lots of fans happy to buy an album. The opinions of 'haters' will be irrelevant because presumably they will be buying the output of Little Mix, Misha or whoever.

The problem with disicussions like this is that they tend to get taken over by people saying "but Janet was crap" as if their subjective opinion of Janet undermines any of the points made.

I was not a Janet fan but Janet and her supporters were treated very unfairly- doesn't matter how crap you think she was.

And the public didn't really tire of her. She came first every week, dropped to second the week of Amelia's much hyped return, came third after an amazing performance by Little Mix and Misha/Kelly. She then had a particularly bad week (I wonder why...), dropped to 4th place and got kicked out because of it against someone who came last for the third time and who was obviously going to get booted out the following week regardless.

It's like a contestant going on Mastermind and being given extremely hard questions, whereas all the others are given very easy ones from a Junior Trivial Pursuit Pack and then blaming the person who got the hard ones for being stupid and getting the least questions right.

I've been reviewing your DS history, and I'm not sure this is true. I'll look into it in more detail over the coming weekend, but for now it is safe to say that at best you hide behind the pejorative use of smileys.

Some good points here : the Janet critics are justifying the producers stitching her up on the grounds that she was "boring".

But the fact remains that they were flying in the face of the public vote. They were harshly treating and attempting to undermine an act who was consistently topping the voting. The nearest thing I can remember to this was their treatment of Mary Byrne who finished in the top 2 for the opening four weeks : Janet's treatment was even more dramatic though.

Still doesn't give you the right to assume everybody agrees with you. Speak your opinion, let others speak for themselves.

If she would have been good we wouldn't have all these threads with conspiracy theories from bitter fans trying to explain away her bad performances.

Those people who think that she was very good are unlikely to "admit" something that they disagree with. Those people who don't think that she was very good would have little reason not to admit it.

It actually does. It says that Janet's fall from grace on the show wasn't because the producers turned on her. It was because her standard dropped after a strong start.

If you want to talk about people who had the show turn on them, how about Kitty with the audition edits making her out to be deranged? Or Misha getting put on blast by the Tulisa/Louis for her purported bad behavior? Or Johnny being put on as a novelty act and being mocked by Gary every week? Those three had it far, far worse than Janet.

The judges may not have rolled out a red carpet for Janet every week, but it's not like there was no basis for their criticism. They treated her with kid gloves for her first few bad performances, but when they started getting a bit more critical, their comments had merit.

If Mmmbop was Janet's number one choice, I dread to think what other choices were available. Amelia on the other hand gets China in your hand, a song which at least gave her an opportunity to impress.
