Thank you for the thread for reminding me of another parallel

Be romantically linked in to an I'm A Celebrity winner : A romantic link with the valuable ITV crossover fanbase that otherwise might bleed out to non-nice, middle-class dancers (who might even be NORTHERN) is a definite advantage. LOOK OUT CAROL THATCHER! FUTURE STRICTLY WANNABES ARE COMING FOR YOUR VAG!

Win the sming-a-ma-jig: True Strictly fans care DEEPLY about the swing-a-ma-jig.

Have the worst stupid mash-up team name of the series : Hali? HALI?! What a load of old shit. Not even "Haliona" (which would be bad enough). Don't even get me started on "Kartem". Looks like Chelsee trying to talk about the capital of Sudan on twitter.

Dobbin wins this year, surely? Or Savola. Sounds like cream you'd put on an itch.

But those are both actual words! The best mash-up names are either where they make actual words, or things that sound like they do (Mavvia Mafia 4eva) or unintentionally make their team sound crap and and annoying and unlikable (ie "Team Ratalie").

Yep, and the voting was a week long event in those days, so - as apparently happened - the winner could be home free before the final actually started.

Colin was still the odds on favourite to win on the day of the final.

Darren's odds had narrowed considerably but he remained in third place behind Colin and Zoe.

I've just been watching Kara videos on Youtube and she would still beat even Harry for me if say, for arguments sake, she were dancing this year with Artem. Her arms were equiste, her neck lines, her head turns..., I mean i could just go on and on! Harry could certainly compete with her but his Latin isn't to the same standard as his Ballroom (imo) and that again is where he's second to Kara because her ability was strong in both. Believe it or not this is not a biased opinion (on Kara), its just a dancing observation as, like a fair few people on here, I'm not alien to varied forms of dancing myself during my yester years. I would happily say that Harry's certainly one of the best boys that Strictly has ever had, though I actually think Matt Diangelo was just a touch better than him (esp in the Latin hips area and in terms on the emotinal expression too, which may have been easier for him since he and Flavs fancied each other at the time).
This is just an opinion (on all the above), not claiming what I'm saying is concrete fact.

Harry is my favourite because I prefer his dances to anyone elses. I am not a McFly fan and I don't fancy him in the slightest! .

Having a bit of fun with stats here

2nd Natasha-------Second Lowest Score Topped Leader board 6 times (Bottom 2 once) Pro-Dance won debut
4th Jill----------Worst ever Score Topped Leaderboard 6 times Pro-Dance won debut
8th Darren-------Worst ever Score Never topped the Leaderboard (Bottom in Final) Pro-Dancers second year
1st Mark---------- Joint Worst Score Topped Leaderboard 6 times Pro-Dancers second year
2nd Alesha--------Worst Score Topped Leaderboard 7 times (Bottom 2 once) Pro-Dancer won 3rd Year
4th Tom---------Worst Score Topped Leaderboard 2 times bottom in final Pro-Dancer won 6th Year
4th Chris -------- 4th & 6th Worst Score Never topped the leaderboard (bottom final) Pro-Dancer won 4th Year
3rd Kara--------- Worst Score Topped Leaderboard 4 times Pro-Dancer won Debut

This is where the winners all placed in the first week. With two exceptions all winners had their worst score in Week One and had continual rise or never dropped below that base. For a few of them starting off in the top 2 hasn't meant they will climb there eventually. Only one winner came first in Week 1.

So this years miscreants

Chelsee- Worst score in week one- finished 4th, Topped Leaderboard 4 times
Harry- Worst Dance week 2, joint 2nd Week 1, Topped Leaderboard 3 times
Jason- Worst Dance week 4, 1st Week top of leaderboard, Topped Leaderboard 5 times (Bottom 2 once)

If Aliona continues her winning formula in her choreography in the final I think I might even vote for Harry. Because when Harry is good, he's EXCELLENT when properly allowed to shine.

Win a Charity Pre-Show Competition: Both Kara and Harry won a BBC Jolly charity event before the show, effecitvely serving as an audition to the producers, showing off their talent, without being so amazing they seemed to be ringers.

Get an ex-SYTYCD pro : Both Artem(finallist) and Aliona(last cut before the finals) made it far on So You Think You Can Dance - a show devoted to versatility, willingness to learn styles outside of ballroom, and performing to a reality tv crowd. As Strictly becomes increasingly less about ballroom, being with a chameleon, rather than an Erin, can only pay off.

Start near the front, but not RIGHT at the front : Both Kara and Harry were strong from the beginning, and clear contenders to win from the off. But the judges held back with the scores in comparison to their rivals . Kara didn't top the leaderboard til Week 6, Harry til Week 7.

Overcome "performance" problem, often imaginary, somewhere mid-series : See : Kara's Charleston, Harry's Argentine Tango/samba. Both hammered by the judges for performance problems, which were never subsequently mentioned. Len bless him even joined in when he'd had to cede the problem to Jennifer Grey when he was away.

Fight with Len, then "win him round" : Len yelling at Kara & Artem for their American Smooth? At Harry & Aliona for a few weeks mid-series? All forgotten by the end - 10S ABOUND.

Whilst fighting with Len, make sure he still hypes you, ludicrously : Remember Len saying Kara was professional standard? Remember Len saying that Harry was one of the best male ballroom dancers he's seen? (Not just on the show...ever!). Oh Len...

Get Alesha on board: Alesha gave the majority of Kara's dances a 10. By the end of the final, the same will almost certainly be true for Harry (it's already 50:50). Nobody else gets this from any other judge...I think ever?

Be better at Ballroom than at Latin, apart from rumba, a bit : I can already hear Kara fans gnashing their teeth, but she was, gerroverit.

Be nice and middle class : This goes for pretty much all Strictly winners, but remember that VT where Artem met Kara's parents? Remember how the romance seemed the most important aspect? WRONG. It was showing us all that they lived in a nice big house with high hedges and classy furnishings. Do we even need to start with Harry?

Be young, but not the baby : Nobody likes an old winner. Hollins was the oldest winner, at 39, and he only got away with that because he was the height and build of a toddler. Kara and Harry are both almost the youngest in their class, but in both cases there's someone a bit younger/less mature (Tiny Tina/Chelsee) to remind you they're still a grown-up.

Go into the final in the lead, but not yet peaking : Go into the final top of the leaderboard, with scores of 39 and 39. This way you're the best, you've yet to peak, and you're an all-rounder. Also, have someone else get a controversial Perfect Score so your fans can start ludicrously claiming you've been "undermarked" for a score of 39 (LOL)

Tie it up, and call it a formula.

(NB : If Chelsee wins, scratch this entire thread, and replace it with one about how Chelsee and Alesha are the same because they both have Nans, amazing quickstep skills, and a ****ing annoying laugh, thx)”

Fabulous post. Thanks

I am not a McFly fan - never have been, never will be, I am voting for Harry because I like what I see on the dance floor

Dont assume that everyone who votes for Harry is a McFly fan - because they are not!

Beat some sense? With a wet haddock?

Don't worry, the only way I would vote for Harry is if Pasha got possessed by Aliona's esoteric spirit and messed up the rumba and the showdance. That means, not MORE between the legs throw back (like he did in his foxtrot, which I nearly began to dislike him).

That's good to hear because I can't stand McFly.

But I do like Harry and will be voting for him.

Didn't Chelsee say that the on-the-night fan was not the same one as the-daily-rehersal-fan. She seemed happy because it was sparklier - although Pasha wouldn't be happy about the swap. I thought it was on the backscene bit on Sunday? Although I could have dreamt it
