On another note, I saw the new series of BFGW mentioned on the previous page and followed the link to read IH's review. I'm so glad I did, as I now realise the girl whose name I thought was Mangle is in fact named the equally ridiculous Nangirl!

How can anyone love Mrs. Brown's Boys but take exception to a fat woman repeatedly falling off a bike. I don't like either but what is the appeal of MBB? I suspect people just say they like it because they like to be contrary and think it's edgy humour for lacking post modern depth to it's offensiveness.

To my knowledge Miranda doesn't consist of her falling off a bike - that happens in Call The Midwife and it's called acting. (She's actually quite good in that IMO). Miranda is just an extension and exaggeration of her own personality and the scripts, situations and performances aren't even vaguely funny and border on insulting.

MBB on the other hand is hilarious. It may be broad, end-of-the-pier, Carry On style stuff, which maybe some people find a bit crude and the man in drag thing has been used more than once. The difference is, at the heart of it there's a real warmth as it's a family effort with BO'C's wife, sister and children all playing roles in the show.

I can sort of see a point that at least MBB is honest about how slapstick it is. Same as You Been Framed is falling off bikes with the same amount of pretension and depth.

Chummy was a real person and presumably the casting director saw something in MH that would fit the part, so what Hyland's trying to say I'm not entirely sure.

I had to let him go as he was developing Stockholm Syndrome and in the run-up to my wedding (to Mr Loz, not Ian...!!) I was getting a bit worried about how he would take the news, had to break it to him very gently.
