Ipod Touch Setup with Itunes (Xmas present)

Some advice on this would be great from anyone more knowledgeable in all things Ipod/I tunes.

i have just bought my girlfriend an I pod touch for Xmas, what i wanted to do was put all her favorite music on it, set WiFi up etc so it is all ready to go Xmas morning.

She has a lot of CD's and i have a good few Albums she likes on MP3.

However, i used to have an I pod years ago, and can remember that you couldn't just stick things on it like with all other MP3 players, you had to sync it with I tunes, so if i set it all up ready for Xmas morning using My PC, as soon as she installed I tunes on her PC and synced it, I tunes would wipe the I pod

I'm worried also, she is obsessed with keeping her hard drive empty, always deleting things here and there to save space, i don't think she will like the fact she needs to keep all her music in both I pod and PC for it all to work.

Is there an easy way round that?, cant i just tell I tunes to store all imported music on I pod?

Thanks for any advice.

You are correct, you need to sync your iPods music with just one computer. If you sync with yours the iPod will require yours for syncing in the future unless it's wiped.

I would just leave it and do it xmas day, as it doesn't take long anyway

Just make sure you have things like the latest iTunes installed and ready to go.

Also depending on where you purchased the iPod touch from you may need to upgrade to IOS5, which can take a while!

Well if you want to upgrade that is, but your gf would be missing out on some nice features

Try using something other than iTunes to copy music to the ipod touch.

I have an iPod Touch and I use MediaMonkey (free download of the basic version) to copy music to my iPod.

You will need (like any music library program) to load the tracks in to MediaMonkey First. You can then select a number of music tracks in MediaMonkey (just the tracks you want on the iPod Touch) and drag and drop them onto the iPod Touch icon to copy them there.

There are individual settings for each MP3 player within MediaMonkey. You will need to set the iPod Touch so that any tracks on the iPod Touch that are NOT on the PC (in MediaMOnkey's library) are NOT deleted on the iPod Touch. With MediaMonkey you can also copy music from your MP3 device to your PC.

It may sound complicated but it's not that hard to figure out and MediaMonkey is free.

I don't like the software that insists on synchronising your MP3 device whenever you connect it. I'm of the 'Old School' and I am used to the MP3 device that is treated as an external hard drive that you can copy tracks to..!

You can have multiple iTunes libraries on 1 PC so you could set up music for yourself and gf without wiping the ipod each time you sync.

You dont HAVE to keep it on PC but is easier. We dont let the ipod sync anything at all. Everything is unchecked on itunes. We drag n drop whatever we want.

Same here it's nice being able to make the choice of what music I want to listen to

This is what I do , I never sync, just manually drag and drop what I want.
