Do you think the show should concentrate on the ten standard dances plus the American smooth.
The celebs no longer get a good grounding in the basics before the show starts and I think this is showing more and more. I think it would be better if they had 4 weeks of training before going live.
Also get rid of the Argentine Tango, Charleston and Salsa, they are terrible dances if not executed well and most of the Pro's struggle with them. Apart from Vincent Flavia and Pasha none of the professionals dance it correctly (although Artem seems to have improved), so how can they teach their partners to an acceptable standard.
The judges don't have a clue what they are looking for (hence 40 for Jason's AT), Holly spent most of hers sat on a stool but still managed to dance more AT steps than Jason and Kristina, theirs was fine for a showdance if you like yours with bad serial killer acting but an AT it was not. 15 seconds of badly executed AT steps in a 90 second routine is appalling.
The Charleston's are as bad, grinning, gurning and flapping around are not the norm in a proper Charleston, Kara and Chelsee got it right, every other one on strictly has been terrible, the judges however give out ridiculous marks to those types (39 for Pamela and James, heavy, leaden footed clumsy effort) and this year most haven't even had very much Charleston content.
The less said about the Salsa the better.
The show could be so much better if they stuck to the 10 standard dances with the AS thrown in as a bit of glamour and the pros could spend time teaching the correct technique instead of breaking the rules of the dances to disguise their partners lack of training.
The finalists are exactly the three dancers who performed the best on the first show, Chelsee has reigned herself in, become more confident and gained better posture but hasn't improved massively from her first outing. Harry has gotten a better top line but is still pretty average in Latin and Jason seems to be going backwards. Last year was the same with maybe the exception of Scott who burnt out towards the end but Kara was an exquisite dancer to begin who improved her confidence and got better and Matt was a good dancer from the start and was slightly better at the end.
We don't seem to have the same improvement in the celebs as when the series was about learning to dance rather than entertainment. We no longer get to know the celebs better as stupid VT's are shown instead of training, we don't know if the dancing is coming easy to them or if they are struggling (with the exception of Jason, who tells us everything), or the relationship with their pro.
Sorry for the rant but in previous years I have loved the show even if I didn't have a particular favourite but this year I have to force myself to watch it, don't stress if I miss it and probably wont watch the final if anything else comes up, it really makes me quite sad.
