Just got a motorola Xoom Wifi for Xmas. Have connected charger to make sure it works and then it has to be put away ( sob!!) till Christmas day.
It is now saying " no sim card" and is locked. Have tried holding the power button down at same time as volume up button. It starts again then says the same. Cant get any further on it.
It is supposed to be wifi only, not sure if i have been sold the 3g version by mistake, if so i have only been charged for the wifi version. I am in the UK.
Thanks to anyone who can help.

Where did you buy it from?

It seems likely that you have the 3G version. Try reading the box/manuals to see if it says 3G or 3G+Wifi.

From a very reputable high street store.
Does not say 3g on the box and has a leaflet inside with basic instructions and the leads.
When i picked it up it was also in a plastic wrapper with two stickers. One with my name on and saying Wifi with the order code and the other sticker on the same plastic bag has a slightly different order code( one digit differance) and says 3g.

So it doesn't say 3g anywhere?

Does it have a SIM card slot?

No it doesnt say 3g anywhere but all i have on the screen is a mesage saying no sim card with a lock symbol which does nothing.
There is a slot at the top ( if in landscape mode) which i believed was for the micro sd card but maybe it is for a sim card as well and it shares it. If anyone has this tablet can you confirm or deny this? Thanks.

It doesn't share it.

Try resetting the tablet.

To reset your Xoom when the screen is totally unresponsive, press the power and volume up buttons at the same time for about three seconds. The two buttons are right next to each other on the back and side of your Xoom. This is a soft reset. It's the equivalent of yanking the batteries or totally powering the device off. Once your Xoom powers back up, it will still have all your software and preferences. It just (hopefully) won't be frozen anymore.

If you do get a micro SD card (yes I think 32GB is max), be careful installing it. When you remove the cover, it goes in the front slot, and you have to remove a plastic place holder first. The larger, deeper, slot at the back is where the SIM card goes, I think (mine is WiFi only), and if you drop the micro SD card in there you'll have a job to get it back!

There is absolutely no documentation on how to install the SD card - I had to get the info from various forums to install mine.

PS: How long did it take you to work out you had to slide the padlock to the edge of the circle to unlock?

I also had to look on the web for info. Yes that damn lock had me fooled for a while.
The leaflet in the box is not that good. Have put a 4gb card in temporarily that i already had. Will wait till the New Year to get a 32 gb one.

I have the ipad2 as well. As i have had instructions to check it is working before Christmas then put it away for wrapping i cant really give many thoughts on it yet. The camera is better on the Xoom but when ipad 3 comes out that may change who knows!
The keyboard is good but then again so is the ipad's. It reminds me of a netbook without the weight and keyboard but with apps! Oh and it has flash and even though flash is said to be on it's way out soon, there are still plenty of sites with it at the moment.
Some apps are not as good on android, for example the kindle app. It looks better on the ipad2 but that is only my opinion, others may disagree.
It is early days yet and im sure there is room in my life for both and it will mean that for once i havent got to sit tapping my fingers when the other half keeps pinching the ipad!

Exactly. It was price which stopped us buying second Ipad and also the fact that the ipad 3 is probably coming out soon.
The galaxy tab looked nice but too dear. The Asus one looked ok but i felt was too heavy as i have a problem with my leg and that is where i rest it while sitting.Looked at Archos ones but was not sure. Xoom seemed like a good choice now it has updated. Even better when you get given the wrong one by mistake
What i would like is an ipad with a sd slot, 3g and usb and hdmi and the choice whether to use itunes or something else but that is never going to happen
