I steam it because boiling just leaves it soggy as hell.

Steaming is the best way to go for broccoli. If you have to boil it, make sure it's a quick boil so that it remains nice and crunchy

A good rule of thumb for veg and cooking it in water is if it grows below ground (potato, carrot etc) start it off in cold water and cook until done, and if it grows above ground throw it into boiling water.
But yes, broccoli's best steamed or stir fried. |

I used to steam it until my steamer broke. Now I put it in a microwavable bowl with water, and put it in the microwave for a few minutes, tastes just as good.

I just eat broccoli raw, same as a lot of vegetables. Sorry, I know, not very constructive.

Bring to boil turn off heat leave saucepan lid on wait a few minutes then drain in a colander and put the colander on top on saucepan back on the warm cooking ring and allow the excess moisture to steam away.

Cook it in boiling water for about 15 mins (not too soggy but not too crisp) then make lovely gravy with the cooking water.

Recipe for Broccoli Pizza:
Buy a pizza, some broccoli, and a rabbit. Feed the broccoli to the rabbit and eat the pizza. |

Another type of steamer that fits in an ordinary pot:

Steam for 10-15 minutes.
But if you fancy. Just use the florets, chopped up (throw away the stalk) Throw in boiling water for 1 minute, Drain and throw in a hot frying pan for a minute. Turn off and throw in some chopped orange (just to warm in the pan) Lavverly! |

I'd steam broccoli for 6 or 7 minutes, and certainly not as long as 10 to 15. I use the sort of folding steamer you put into an ordinary pan, though, and maybe that's hotter than some other methods of steaming.
And I'd cook the stalk, except the coarsest part of it!

My god, someone said boil for 15 minutes. If I do boil it's for 5 mins max in already boiling water.
Preference is to steam for no more than 10 mins. |

Personally, I break it up into fairly small florets, add some cauliflower maybe, then drop them all into boiling water for about 3 minutes. I don't like soggy veg, so boiling time has to be kept to a minimum, just enough to start softening but no more. |

Stick it in the steamer and steam for five minutes. Use those five minutes to make a nice cheese sauce, then Robert is your Mother's Brother.
