Helen Reddy
Not sure if many people remember her, or even like her, but I came across a recent interview of her that was shown in Austraiia on youtube. Have to admit i`m a fan & it`s strange to hear how she has given up totally the business, yet seems quite happy. Have to admire her modesty when she says "she doesn`t care if she is remembered or not`. I don`t think there are many `stars` out there who would ever say that.

I'm old enough to know and to have loved Helen Reddy's stuff. Good on her.

At least she appears happy. Ultimately people will remember her, especially if they were around at the time, and with the power of the internet, she won't be forgotten.
Whilst it's probably cited too often as an example of her brilliance, 'Angie Baby' is one of the best songs recorded in the last 50 years. |

I remember Helen well. Lovely voice. One of my favourite songs of hers was Angie Baby. Loved that song!

Have to admit I`m astounded that so many people liked her as well. Normally when I mention her name to anyone, I just get `blank looks` !. Just hope the rest of her LP`s appear someday on the CD reissues. Considering how she achieved so much in record sales etc, I`m always amazed how the likes of BBC4 have never done a profile/ history of her. She was vastly underrated imho & could sing any type of song.

Funnily enough, I think i`ve listened to `Angie baby` that much, that it`s dropped down a little in my faves sung by her!. This live track of her singing the Jeff Lynne / ELO track "Poor little fool" still sounds so `powerful` even today...

Listened to her quite a bit growing up as she was one of my mum's favourites and she had most of her albums.

A long-forgotten classic of hers is Long-Distance Love. The Youtube recording is a bit quiet though.

Another song, that was probably ahead of it`s time, was `Take what you find`... http://www.youtube.comwatch?v=6jNbw2U9UvQ
I always think a lot of her `album tracks`, could easily have been big hits in themselves like "Don`t mess with a woman", "New years resovolution", "the happy girls", "Catch my breath" & "Heartbeat". Of course I also like all the songs everyone has mentioned, It`s good that people are still aware of her music & how good she was, despite her calling time on her career herself. |

No she wasn't; she was the singing nun in Airport '75. Not the worst movie ever made but pretty close.

Nope not seen/heard of the film either, still don't know of her but will check her out, she seems so content and humble in her older age!

When she got to the US she was just about stranded there after being ripped off by various "managers/agents" so good for her that she managed to hang on to some of her money.
A great talent with a magnificent voice. ![]() Also only 5' 3''. Film of her performing gives the impression that she's much taller.

On his 70s and 80s show on Friday evening, Phil Butler on BBC Radio Sheffield featured Angie Baby as his forgotten 45. Did he read and draw inspiration from this thread?
