Olly is real.. he's normal, I mean the guy still lives with his mum, lol . His sales are suprising, i never thought of him being THAT popular but he is well done to his label !

Olly has just been lucky and scored when no-one was looking or expecting much from him.

He's very likeable - MORE than he was on the X Factor, I think - and has brought out good pop songs. He just hit the spot from nowhere. I think he could be one of the biggest stars from the X Factor ever.

He's also done well on the Xtra Factor, admitedly carried a little bit by Caroline but he's learnt a lot.

I have to admit I find his success pretty baffling, given his vocals. I mean, good luck to him and all that, but still. Baffling.

I hope Diana breaks the sophomore curse. Her new music is incredible.

face, penis and backside. the three reasons for his success. theres something there for the latter () but not much in the vocal dept. also he was on the show for 3 months, mega promo, notice the release date was well into his tenure on the show. girls love him, hence all the sexual references on the xtra factor (they were quite funny nonetheless).

when he performed live recently, he was awful!! all the finalists (bar frankie) were better singers than him! and notice how olly said that simon said to him: 'you're doing it' and that was the end of the discussion. he's a pushover clearly. Its a nice show, nice paypacket and exposure, but without it as his last few singles on his debut showed, he is nothing. he doesnt have the raw talent to back it up. the music's ok, but he hasnt got the talent.

also not having an OTT received and hyped debut/previous album helps as MJ, adele, katy perry showed. the sales of the second/next album (off the all, 19, one of the boys) were much higher. in Leona's case, everyone expected echo to be ace, but it wasn't hyped like spirit was and the lead single was dull. It should have been more futuristic (ie. can't fight it - one of the leaked tracks. some of the best stuff i've heard from her). she should be diverse, when she did the mash up of man down in the BBC R1 live lounge, it was ace! she should take more risks, as it'll gain interest.

My daughter aged 30 liked him on the X and I never got it, not one bit of it. He for me is baffling, and I disliked him and Caroline on the whole this year to be honest with you. All too smutty, and went just a tad to far at times.

My 17 year old son said well he has the looks, I nearly fell over, he is not remotely what I would call good looking, he for me is Mr Average, voice, looks, he does have charisma, but even then not by he bucket load.

I find it odd he is doing so well.. but there you go what suits me does not suit everyone.

Could it be because he is quite good?

Obviously no one on DS forum will think he is good as everyone on here is too busy listening to Johny Cash. But he came close to winning the X factor out of 10000s of people and now he has had number ones. So some people must think he is good.

He also came bottom of the vote one week so was only there due to the judges saving him, and I do not think he came that close to winning the show.

He is not my cuppa tea, but as I said my daughter liked him on the show, but says she has not been keen on his stuff released since, I would not really know as I have not bothered with any of it.

eoghan quigg and JLS almost won over alexandra, and neither act could sing as well as her. your point had no validity. good is subjective, but when teenage girls vote, its all about the boys and their looks.

And it was Jedward he was in the bottom two with that week, I think!

To be honest, I don't really understand his appeal either. I don't think his music is particularly good or original (a friend described Olly to me as a 'one-man Showaddywaddy') and I don't really think he's very good looking either.

But it doesn't offend me that he's done well and I certainly don't begrudge him his success, I just don't entirely understand it. Well done to him though, he's had a very successful career so far.

he`s doing well. deal with it. no matter how people try to drag him down with catty comments. he`s still selling well, better than ever in fact. the second album is an improvement on his début, so there is progression in his music. personally i like his music, his voice is perfectly adequate and he has charisma. its as simple as that.

The released songs on this album have been FAR better than on the first!! Add to that all the promotion he's had from being on Xtra Factor, as well as the Rizzle Kicks collaboration, and that's probably how he's done so well!

he's average looking, but that doesnt matter. all of 1D are average looking as is bieber but when there aren't many lookers, the girls go wild over nothing. he isn't original, he's singing r&b/soul/pop with no emotion whatsoever, thats what irritates me (i.e. dance with me tonight is a tune, but its sung with no soul at all! and the video should have been one of those US 50s style dances, like in west side story, it really would have been ace! but i guess mr. no-soul murs doesnt think like that. wouldnt and doesnt surprise me.)

A lot of people who did not seem to be the type to be Johnny Cash fans before, suddenly seem to be his biggest fans now because they looked up his version of 'Hurt' on youtube

The only thing that I did not like was Caroline going overboard one night on the Xtra it ended up with me wanting to turn off. I do not begrudge him his success either, but I don't understand it either. I do think the songs have been pretty good and catchy tunes though.

I hope I did not come over as catty, but I really do not get his success, he was never for me on the show I liked Danyl, but that is about voice. Olly did have charisma, my only falling out with the guy was when he got through and went over board one week, other than that I just found him to be okay, his dance moves hopefully have improved.. LOL

LOL! i never understood the hype on him, it was like he'd watched the whole of motown perform and MJ and just fused them together. those legs were nothing new or special. your critique makes perfect sense, my father thinks the same way.
