Don't think so - Aliona's shoulder crosses what you may think is a join? Plus - they're not quite in sync.
I've always been an Aliona fan, never understood the grief she gets on this forum. She's getting less of this year only because she is teamed up with Jay, which is a shame.

I had reservations about Aliona when she first appeared because, although a stunning dancer, she seemed to be more concerned with demonstrating her own skill than showing up her partner in a good light. Then I came round to thinking that her strategy was hiding her partner's weaknesses by drawing attention to herself. Now this year I think she has a worthy partner , which enables her to produce routines which do them both justice. So clearly I am mellowing in my old age.

I'm hoping that people will give her a chance now. I've always thought she was fab and got a particularly rough deal.
Interestingly lots of fans on the AT are appreciating some of her choreo with Matt now looking back at it more detached.
I think she was just ahead of her time on Strictly.

the previous 3 years they paired her with duds...unfortunately she didn't show much interest in them, apart from jacklin. That's her only fault imo..

Johnny had learned the CCC routine with 9 days left to polish up the technique before the show, when Aliona got injured. Aliona had increased the training from 5 hours a day to 8 hours a day when she discovered that despite being 74, Johnny could handle longer training sessions.
She also said "Weirdly, dancing comes naturally to Johnny."
and "Johnny has an amazing personality and we're definitely going to showcase that. You know - he really might surprise people."
Unfortunately the section Aliona had choreographed to show off his personality was removed, so we will never know if that would have got him past week 1.

That's not an Aliona-thing, that's a couples dancer-thing; the woman is generally the one being shown off. Watch Lilia, Ola, Kristina, even Erin- they all do it. Generally speaking, it seems to be a criticism that's only brought out when someone is looking to find fault.
If there's a male pro that's guilty of over-dancing, I'd say it's Giovanni in the jive and the samba. Not that I'm complaining- I love those two dances and have re-watched them many times. It may well be that it inspires the celeb to do even more.

Do you know what I love Natalie but it amazes me how she gets away with all her skirt wafting when she has a duffer. But Aliona gets slated for hiding flaws.
I think Aliona is far more like Pasha as in wanting even the dufferiest duffer to actually learn correct technique (see Fatskia training vids of Jonny above) and do some correct footwork. Maybe that means she has to give them a bit less to do choreographic ally but at least what they do is technically better than some duffers who just pose and grin with jazz hands.

Since the Matt year, she has been my favourite female pro. Yes, some of her routines were wacky, but not more than say Gleb's.

I get why people took issue with her reaction to Gregg, but even Natalie and Anton havent been given 3 completely obvious first evictee duffers in a row. I think she genuinely thought that even if she wasn't getting a contender she'd maybe served her time in dufferville and was due a middler at the very least. I think she was just genuinely shocked and perhaps her face showed it before she could compose herself.
What annoys me is the rewriting history that she's miserable, sulks and makes her partners feel like crap whenever they aren't the ringiest ringer. When the intro vids for Tony and Jonny are online for all to see that's completely false and she's lovely when being paired and lovely when training them.
