I auditioned for xfactor a few years ago and got knocked back in the very first round! haha.

I've always loved singing and thought i was OK but since then it has really knocked my confidence and i've begun to think perhaps my voice is awful to other people?!

I have done a short youtube video and would love some feedback if anyone has a spare minute..

i'm really just wanting to work out if it's something i should continue with or give up alltogether!

Any comments; negative or otherwise, would be greatly appreciated..

Thanks guys

You have got genuine talent imo - x factor unfortunately is a tv entertainment show based on a popularity contest so you're probably better off without it - their loss!

I think your pretty good. If I was being completely honest, I'd say you sound slightly nasally and maybe sometimes your voice seemed a little like you were trying to imitate other singers instead of singing with your natural voice, but they aren't massive problems at all! There's definitely something there if you work on it.

I think the problem with the X Factor is that they largely cast for reasons well beyond talent. So basically unless you go in with a massive sob story, make yourself incredibly unlikeable or simply fit the mould for something that they want for this years competition, you really haven't got much of a choice to get through.

Don't let the X Factor be your limit though. Maybe try some singing lessons to iron out some of the flaws and learn about your voice better and then try gigging or something. Your a good singer.

I would like to ask how old you are? and who are you idols in the music industry.

What type of other songs do you sing?

I certainly think you have potential, I do think a few singing lessons would pay off.

Have you also considered the new show coming up next year, although not sure if auditions are over for it, maybe someone else here will know, the show is called The Voice, and I think you do have one.

Do you play any instruments by the way?

wow thank you all so much, i was not expecting such a positive response by any means. I really appreciate you taking the time to listen and give your opinion and I will take all of your advice.

Green Goddess - I've just turned 26! (i know i only look about 15 haha)

I haven't really considered doing anything with singing since the knock back! I enjoy acting very much and I think possibly that is where my real talent lies.

I used to play the drums but not since my school days, would also love to learn to play the guitar but don't seem to have got round to it!

Thank you all once again for your comments

Yeah you sound good. You say about the acting so musical theatre is probably where you belong. The X factor is a lottery I would avoid that if I was you.

There were a few pitch problems in that video.

And your vocal balance/tone is a bit off, so I would get a vocal coach or watch some singing tips on YouTube to help you.

Producers may knock you back if you don't "razzle-dazzle" them enough with your personality.

Were you confident during the audition ??

The performance lacked personality, if singing is truely your passion then we all sohuld see that.

You gotta let them know that singing/performing is what you want to do, that's why the producers always why you have auditioned for The X Factor. It's all about PASSION.

So, work on your Vocal Balance and Tone, explore your singing voice, find out how could you can actually be

Then maybe audition again.

Thanks Dazzer yeah musical theatre sounds like a great option

Vash, thanks for the advice! I know what you mean with the pitch problems etc, I find it quite painful to listen back to it haha! I have to say I don't think I was confident in the audtition, no. Great advice, thanks for that! I'll work on those things and perhaps do another video to see how i've improved.

Thanks Niall, I may start auditioning again after a bit of work

Haven't read any of the other comments. I like the fact that you're thinking about what you're singing. You can certainly sing but it's not a great song choice and you probably need some training to develop what's there as there are a few pitchy notes and the breath control isn't great. But if it's something you love, definitely don't give up. Just ask yourself why X Factor is your chosen route.

Honestly I don't think I'd put you through on the show as a soloist as there's no wow factor for me (though it could be the song), so you're probably better off not focusing on X Factor and finding people to work with to develop some original material that is tailored to your style and range etc. Get some performance experience.

And remember, being a singer or musician is not all about winning X Factor. It's about loving what you do and maybe inspiring and making other people happy with it as well. Whether that's at Wembley Stadium or any other smaller venue, it all counts.

Your voice is good but you have some bad singing habits. I think if you audition you need to sound like yourself not like you are copying other people.

Good luck!

Okay so you are over 26 which means the overs group, hell I would avoid it like the plague, it is not the best category on this show for a start. Although at some point they do have to find an over, just as they had to find a group.. Steve rather wrecked it with Simon on this age group I think.

You did not reply on who your own idols are which I think is important, and what music you like and I would like to see you singing something else so upload something, you look like I would (and I cannot SING) a bit nervous and not liking being there in the camera, which I fully understand but on the X you have to either be a shy mouse, and fail, or a nutter and get on the show.. as was proved by Jedward, Chico, Wagner and even Kitty but she could at least sing.

Do not shoot me but both my 17 year old son and I said.. erm.. help how do I put this, are you female or male.. sorry but you VT does not really tell, I said male my son said female..

I would also say stick a backing track of music on and sing to that.. I did not know the song you are singing either which did not help either for me.

Can you act, if not take lessons you have the right face for musical theatre as well.

I would agree with this, you did not connect fully, which means looking in the camera for starters, I do not want to see the top of your head, I want to see your eyes..

Not least diction, I know I bang on about it BUT...

Songs have lyrics for a reason and to do a song justice people have to be able to hear them. The faux anguish really didn't sell it to me either...

As people have said there's stuff like breathing control issues, and the song choice didn't allow for much personality to come through, actually, as a rule of thumb avoid Adele song covers like the plague. But I definitely think you've got the raw materials to be a great singer, and I'm VERY hypercritical of people singing songs on youtube.
