I really don't get the praise for a spoonfed plot regarding the pre-announced death of someone who's been little more than an extra since Frank Butcher left. Pam St Clement is an actress the country has so little interest in they could have easily let her death play out on screen rather than giving the tabloids the date of her death months beforehand.


Is the NYE stuff broadcast live in all time zones are delayed as usual, so viewers in LA see NY celebrate midnight the same itme they do?

I'm baffled really by how Merlin continues to grow as despite individual episodes being generally well written and well acted I just find it so repetitive now and episodes taped this year have been sitting longer and longer on my PVR. I did get round to watching the last three a couple of days back - though I slept through most of the first. The first part of the finale wasn't bad at all, but the second was very much like we'd seen it all before - and they kept Morgana alive, meaning it's the same old plot line next year too.

They have shown some trailers 'New years Day on BBC1' but would casual viewers have known it was pats last episode?

It worked and brought back some memories. Blimey, the days when Neighbours attracted 17 million viewers. However, the data must have been collected in between Crossroads finishing and Home and Away starting as both went and appeared in the same year. Also the rating for EE in 1988 of 13.4 million was a bit low, but I know the soap was going through a dull patch.

Even if they were stinkers, people wouldn't know that until they've actually watched the shows and by then they'd already be counted as part of the ratings. But anyway, the general reception online for both EastEnders and Sherlock by critics and viewers alike has been extremely positive. Not sure about AbFab though.

I wonder how the farce of the darts (Sky Sports 1) will rate tomorrow. There are complaints about a breeze and the players have already walked off twice.

Dancing on Ice (Up 1%) *Due to the many changes but I think it won't make much difference

Britain's Got Talent (Down %2) I see it being thrashed by the Apprentice again and the talent is not going to improve

SCD (Up %3) If they make some changes I think it may grow further and after a high this year

TXF- If they change judging panel, and change the show
slightly and get good talent in It could go up but leave it unchanged then I expect it to stay the same or drop slightly but not as much.....

Normal service will be resumed next Sunday when DOI comes back on ITV1 and ITV bosses can rest easy after what has probably been a bad night for them. I like DOI as it's like Strictly on ice. Also is WAH back on 8/1 as this is easy on the eye drama?

Wade is leading Lewis 2-0 in the second semi final; Lewis has complained about a breeze and walked off, shortly followed by Wade. They then came back, did a bit of a practice and started the next game, but Lewis especially continued to complain about the breeze pushing his darts across towards the 5 bed (though Wade did seem to agree there was a breeze, as did the competition coordinator). Lewis and Wade are now back on stage; all air conditioning is off that they can switch off and the crowd are most defintiely anti-Lewis.

It'll be interesting to see the Simon Cowell affect as he's returning to the panel. I don't think it'll be down this year; personally I think it'll be up ever so slightly.

Maybe the first couple of audition shows but people are really not bothered for the final week of shows and the Apprentice will be on again by then.....

Unless the BBC are planning to strip The Apprentice across the week that's only one night out of five...though will the Jubilee celebration be pitted against it at any time?

It might be down by 200,000 or so, if the 2 pc decline is anything to go by, but certainly nothing to worry about as BGT is a big hitter and newer than TXF. I'll go for a 10.8 million average, which is still very good.
More predictions for this year for the soaps: the big three will stay more or less the same in the ratings, audiences probably will jump if a major character dies or leaves, Hollyoaks revival will see this show go up to 1.5 million. The Dallas revival should see around 1.5 million as this show still has a nostalgic pull for some people.

I predict pretty good numbers for them tonight - a really strong schedule IMO. Topped off perfectly with the brilliant Adele Live at The Royal Albert Hall which should have done good numbers in that slot.

BGT has also started to die quicker, peaked in a very early series.....
To get specific I think 10.2m average (10.4 inc +1) and a 9.7 million overnight average

Still very respectable, but maybe the 19 million it achieved for the 2009 final was a fluke and down to the Subo factor. I still think BGT will live on for a few more years.
Actually looking back through the past, its closest relative New Faces ran for five years in the seventies and was then revived for another two series in the eighties. It's likely on this count BGT could be around until 2014.
Or another example, its distant relative Opportunity Knocks ran for 17 series on ITV and was revived for another 4 on BBC 1. Mind you this really was a ratings monster in its Hughie heyday, when ratings could reach 24 million.

Even if Sherlock did hold off Potter tonight, I suspect it will be crushed by ITV's combination of DOI and Wild at Heart next week. Even if tonights had lived up to the.substantial hype, it would still have lost out to the toughest competition it has yet faced next week. With Royal Bodyguard about to tank big style in the ratings tomorrow, the next week wI'll give Cohen He's toughest start to the year I am sure of that.

For me Britain's Got Talent will get to a point and steady. It may be that the point will be around the 6-7m mark rather than the 10m mark, or it may have fallen to it's lowest point already and it'll steady off now. But as long as it stays around a relatively decent figure (and I think it will) it will have a shelf life.

In comparison, I think The X Factor will tumble Big Brother style - maybe not over the next couple of years but I don't think it'll be around come 2020. There's only so many joke singers that can keep people drawn in and the panel has to work to give it seemingly any momentum whatsoever.

Yes the ITV1 bosses will be eagerly anticipating their Sunday big guns, which should do well again. DOI and WAH are feel good shows and ideal to forget about the bad weather.
While ITV1 understandably has gone into a lull after TXF, they still had a decent Christmas and their two Sunday favourites are back next week to give them two top ten places.
Actually for all I enjoy a bit of a love/hate relationship with ITV1, I think it's more love today. The old stager has definitely improved in the last 2 years and at last they have some shows worth watching again.
